Cool BMW Performance Parts Manager Talks LSD, M3 Parts, N54 N55 Performance Power Kits

Here is an interview I had with Eric Riehle (BMW Performance Parts MGR) while we were at BMW's annual Aftersales Conference (End of March).

Please excuse the birds. We wanted the setting to be at BMW's Auto-X event, so it was noisy.

I attempted to compile some of the questions Bimmerpost members had into a 15 minute time-frame (that's all the time we had to create this video), so if I missed your question, I apologize.

TOPICS:

- Limited slip differential
- Lease residualization program
- New electronic performance steering wheel
- M3 performance parts (M3 may gets unique performance steering wheel)
- Coming: Stage 1 and Stage 2 BMW Performance power kits for both N54 and N55 - Stage 1 (software only) / Stage 2 (software + hardware)

Best regards,
Daniel Miles

The M3 could have it's very own Performance Steering wheel. No release date yet.

Yea, that is really interesting news! I wonder how much they will charge for just the SW ? Do you think more or less than DINAN's ??? Maybe this is why DINAN is on the outs with BMW NA.

I'll believe the LSD when I see it. Until then I'm going to stick with my Dinan Diff.

Would the performance power kit have any incremental power to offer on the 1M? I would imagine that the 1M is already at or above the stage 2 kit's specification level (software and hardware).

I wonder if they will offer PPK stage 2 upgrades for owners that already have the PPK hardware installed...

Probably not. The PPK (stage 2) basically gives N54 equipped BMWs similar performance to the 335is (I think w/o the overboost mode). Since the 1M already has the same performance enhancements as the IS models, I doubt if this particular kit would give any more power to a 1M.

Of course, BMW could release a 1M specific PPK, but that doesn't seem to be addressed in this video.

As of May 2011, BMW has said that they will not create an LSD for the E9x and E8x. Additionally, the performance suspension is compatible with the 335is.

With the N54 stage II (with hardware) power pack already only offering 20 HP and 30 ft-lbs, I wonder what the N55 stage 1 will offer? I can't see anyone buying a tune with less than a 20 HP boost.....

unless stage one now gives the N55 320 hp and 330 torque and stage two gets it around 330-335HP and 340 torque?

stage one could still be like $2000 with stage two now costing $3000, total guess
