Clutch Delay Valve

Does anyone know if the E90 includes the notorious BMW Clutch Delay Valve (CDV)? I assume that, if it does, there will be a mod kit to remove it.

I don't think so, atleast it is not mentioned any where in the manuals.

What does a clutch delay valve do and why is it notorious? Thanks.

This page does a good job describing what the infamously hated CDV is, what it does, and will convince you to remove it

I e-mailed Zeckhausen to ask if they plan on offering a CDV modification service for the E90, and will post their response here when I receive word.

I'm assuming this CDV thing only applies to cars with manual transmissions, right?

No wonder when I was test driving it was hard to gauge the gas/clutch ratio. I thought it was just because I was use to a racing clutch that catches right away, but if this will happen even later on, I would definitely want this removed.

I will definitly be removing/modifiying it. Does anyone know if a different valve will be required for the E90?

The E90 valve looks very different from the E46 one, its much larger and also mounts to the body

Thanks for the illustration - very clear.

DOes changing the CDV out void the warranty in any way? If I have transmission problems at 25k, are they going to try and blame it on this valve not being there?

Do cars with Steptronic transmissions be affected by this CDV?

I do know BMW here has refused to fix problems on some peoples cars due to the valve being removed

In the US I havent heard about anyone having service refused because of this. In fact, I'd be really impressed if any of the dealers even noticed it was missing. Its so tiny and hard to tell its there, unless you are specifically looking for it.

I meant fix it free under warranty

They actually look for it because they know it is removed
The E90 one doesnt look like it can be removed as it attaches the 2 lines together

Zeckhausen says they don't have a part number for it yet, but once they do, they plan on developing a mod service, and plan to update their website in the next couple of months.

E90fleet,
Despite the screw-the-customer attitude of many of the dealers here in the US, it's surprising that they would notice such a small detail, unless they were instructed to look for it by BMWNA.

The dealers here are instructed to look for it when looking at certain clutch related problems, but probably wont see it in normal servicing

I e-mailed Zeckhausen with the above part number and informed him of our discussion here. Thanks, Tierfreund!
