Need some opinions

I am new to BMW but Ive always wanted a 3 series so I ordered a 335i in Space Gray, Black leather and Glacier aluminum trim with M package. Ive been waiting for 3 months for it to arrive. My salesperson said it would arrive by truck tomorrow. Just for the heck of it, I went to walk around the lot after the dealer closed. My car was on the lot and unlocked. It is beautiful but it has the regular brushed aluminum trim. Im not happy! If I pay $51,000 for a car that I have to wait 3 months for I really expect to get what I order. Im thinking about not taking the car. Do I have any options? Can I get them to replace the trim with Glacier trim? Am I just being silly and should take what is delivered. If I walk, Im going to sell my current car and upgrade to a 997.
Thanks
Craig

First off, are you absolutely sure its your car?
Second, I would be totally pissed if my brand new car was sitting on the lot after hours unlocked. Maybe your new car was still inside getting prepped?
Third, if its not what you ordered they are obligated to make it right.
Last, if your so willing to dump your other car for a 997 you probably didnt need the BMW in the first place. Was it an impulse purchase?

I would guess that is probably not your car, if he said it was arriving tomorrow.

If this really is your car...

First, I agree I would be upset the car was unlocked. I don't think I would admit that I was stalking the dealer though after hours!

Second, yes, you should get the trim you ordered. However, I don't think it's such a big deal that you ought to refuse the car. If you like the current trim, see what you can get out of the dealer for the mistake. If you don't like it, have them order and install the correct trim with some other goodwill gesture for the inconvenience and disappointment that a custom car was not correct. Mistakes happen, but it is how they are resolved that really matters.

And I don't know about you, but when I shopped for my 3 series, I didn't cross shop with a Porsche. If I didn't need four seats, I would have gone straight to the Porsche dealership!

Its my car. It has every option just as I ordered it including fold down rear seats. It is a small dealership. The service manager came by when I was looking at it and locked the cars on the back lot that were unlocked including mine. Not an impulse buy, Ive been lurking on here for months. I went to the dealership to buy a e90 M3 and decided I liked the low end torque of the 335i better for a daily driver. I already have a track car/toy and this BMW is not going to be a track car. My daily driver was a 2004 STI that I sold 2 months ago in preparation for the arrival of the new 335. Im currently daily driving my autocross car. it is a 1991 Porsche 964. Do you think it will be a big deal to get the brushed alum swapped out with the Glacier trim?

nope, no biggie for them to swap it. If it's really their fault, i don't see them hesitating to replace it.

Stick to your original spec if they made an error have them replace it to your original spec or walk away from it.

Definitely get them to swap the trim if it really is wrong. No big deal. And if you act nice about it then you develop a good relationship with your dealership which may make them look the other way on things later

The profit on one of these cars is about $5000 the trim costs $300, I'm sure they would have absolutaly no problem swapping it if it means you still buying the car.

With that said i would advise you to keep the aluminium trim, my personal oppinion is that the glacier trim is ugly and reminds me of extremely cheap chinese made products. It's litelrally just plastic with a pattern over it that is painted silver. It has the same sophistication as a happy meal toy. It's also quite litelrally the cheaptest trim that BMW makes. Most of their regular trim is $1000 this trim is $300 so I really can't begin to fathom why anyone would come to the decision to want it. It seems incredibly out of place in such a high end car.

So just think about it before you ask them to swap it, and they will swap it if you ask.

Thanks for your input everyone. Just as some of you said it wasnt a big deal, they made a mistake. They will swap it out. The new trim is being airmailed to the dealer.
