Hi BB3M3R,

Could I just do a straight forward swap-over of the base front door speakers for the focal's along with the tweeters and cross-overs? Of course I would need to buy the speaker adaptors and the door trims as well.

The Focal's are 4ohm, but would this be a big deal though?

Thanks Dizzle, hows the Sport Plus going?

I've not heard the OE Logic 7 system so really couldn't say. I would hope it is a better system if not just because of the sum of it's parts? Not alwyas the case I know. When i get to hear one I will have to post up my findings!

Hi, physically yes you could but the output of the 'base' HU would not be enough to power the Focal's. They would work but would likely clip/distort at volume possibly causing them damage. Remember the front setup also incorporates the underseats so the HU's power is also feeding them.

I would strongly recommend an amp if you are considering doing anything more than adding a set of tweeters to the doors.

There's also the issue of the standard HU on the 'base' system outputs a tweaked EQ so anything else you fit would really benefit from having this reversed first.

As far as I'm aware the speakers in the 'base' system are all 4 ohms

I have a question here.

i have the Hifi with idrive.

what im wondering is if i can use the same cable that sits on the orginal speaker on the new speaker im going to set into the door cards? is that possible or no?

Yes, if you buy speakers from VP-Electricity, he will pre connect the OEM speaker connector on there.

As far as cost, I've not actually totaled it up but roughly I would estimate about £1500 ish

Or you can make up adaptors like I did for my rears using the part numbers in my guide

Thanks for the great post. I'm looking to upgrade my base system shortly and the info you have provided will be extremely useful.

Have you had any error messages as you have not recoded?

From what I have read, recoding is to adjust the EQ settings only and as you have installed a signal summing processor recoding is not required. Is this correct?

Thanks, hope it assists! You are quite correct, the re-coding is just to flatten the EQ on the 'base' system and this is being done externally by the MS8. It is not being used as a signal summing device as the 'base' doesn't require this (MS8 can do this if required though)

Another thing the bare in mind is that apparently later cars can't be recoded despite them appearing to take the changed coding their output signal has remained unchanged. This was a factor in my decision to use a processor.

There are no errors displayed because as far as the car is concerned nothing has changed.

It's only the 'base' that has this tweaked EQ though, 'Hi Fi' and 'Logic 7' need as slightly different approach so make sure you know your starting point before you commit to buying your equipment. Have fun!
