Rear brake pads

I finally got around to fitting my replacement EBC red stuff rear pads, sensor & resetting the brake light sensor today, job took me just under two hours including tea drinking & cleaning up springs & shocks whilst I had the wheels off.
The old pads had lasted 21000 miles, the fronts have done the same mileage & are approximately half worn.

Imo these red stuff ceramic pads are excellent, low dust, they are very good from cold & the car stops on a sixpence. Much better than the stock pads that were in it previously.

Unfortunately when I removed driver side rear tyre I noticed a small screw & a nail in the tyre. Fortunately the screw was in the middle & the nail just slightly off centre & seven inches apart. I popped the wheel in the back of my van & had the punctures repaired by my local tyre place for £10 cash

This is a very easy job to do yourself & there are some good YouTube tutorials, first time I did my brakes I followed the FCP Euro guide by Garath Foley which is very good.

I have posted some pics but for some reason I am only able to post 1 pic per post.

According to the I drive the old pads still had 2000 miles left in them.

Yup, brake pads are an easy job.

Did you clean the caliper slide pins as well?

i had red stuff ceramic on my focus st mk2..the fronts only lasted around 12k miles, and they were proper shot/down to the boards on inner side of disc side ,,great pads for minimal dust and good at reducing brake fade..

No Andy, the retaining clips were replaced the first time I fitted new pads & discs at 66k. I bought them from ECP.

I suspect the ST is harder on its brakes, doesn't it have a fancy diff?

just standard open limited slip diff, but loads of owners went for wavetrack/quaife etc etc i loved the savage way the car torque steered, justb kept you involved,if you ddint keep 2 hands on the steering wheel while flooring it in 3rd,then the ditch was entered ha ha 1st,2nd gear in the st were crap with fwd and standard diff, butn i very rearely did drag starts etc,,car had over 300 bhp and i loved it,but klike any car they had their probnlems ..mainly drive shafts and liners(block) i had that sorted though at dream science(block mod) 1 drive shaft new from ford was £600,how the hell they charges that was beyond me,refurb ford ones were only around £200

Thank bud, Iím noticing every time I throughly wash my wheels or in very wet weather I get a slight clunk or knock from what I think is the rear, from research it could be the clips need replacing, or pads movingly slightly in there mount.

I think itís related to when the car puts on the rear brakes for you at a stop (hill assisted) ect

Mine will occasionally do the same, I think it's when the discs get wet & car is stationary a thin film of rust appears on the discs & maybe the pads bind, once the cars been driven & brakes applied a few times the disks are cleaned & the clunking noise goes away

I'm no expert but I suspect the traction control works very hard on the ST causing the pads to wear quickly.

I had a little duel with a 16 plate ST last week, I got a better start than him then I had to lift slightly taking a bend which is when he drew alongside until we were going straight at which point I pulled away. I slowed down once things started to get silly speed wise. When he pulled alongside me he gave me the middle finger then once past me he pulled across in front of me & hit his brakes
