Put my order in today for a 2012 E-92 (Coupe) - scheduled for the 36th week of the year production. Dealers have limited allocations at this point, but can order a 2012. The E-90's need to have the factory converted for the F-30 model; therefore, the E-90 production will be halted in October.

Question E90 Production - Special Order

I've spoken to 4 different dealers in the last two weeks and everyone of them is giving me different answers to the question: Can I still order an E90 328i Sedan? Reading here, it looks like it's too late, but:

Last week, one of the dealers told me that I still had several months to order a custom 328i. (But I'm seeing terrible ratings for that dealership's service department and am hesitant to order from them) Today, two dealers told me the time window to order had passed. Another said he wasn't sure and would have to get back to me. (They're not sure?)

Am I going to have to wait until next year to get my wife her new car. The combination of options we want are not available on any BMW dealer lot in the U.S. That info has come from the dealer's themselves.

If it's still in production until October, why can't I order one today?

OK, so If I can't order a 2011, then how long do I have to wait until I can order the 2012? I'm not going to order one, sight unseen. One of my dealers told me today that I would be seeing the 2012 on the lot in late October. That's the first I've heard of that.

Another dealer told me that the 2012 would have the inline 6 as an option. A second told me that the 2012 would only have a 4 cylinder Turbo for the 328i. (again, these things I was told today!)

This is ridiculous! Do the BMW dealerships have a clue what's going on? I'm ready to move on it now, but the dealerships don't seem to know anymore than I do! It seems like the people on this blog know more about BMW production than their dealerships do.

My wife's second choice is the RX350. I can get that one with the options she wants right now. Should I go ahead and buy that?

First, I believe the dealers when they say they cannot order you a 328i from the factory. Either they don't want to waste a production slot on it, don't have a production for Sept/Oct (likely), or would just prefer you find one on the lot.

Second, it will probably be early summer before you can order an F30. Personally, I would wait. Everything from the styling, to the features of the F30 should be great.

Third, there is zero chance you will be able to get the I6 in the 2012 328i F30. The N20 is now the standard base level engine. See: 2012 528i and base Z4. Not that this is a bad thing! The N20 is probably better than the N52 for just about everything. You want a 2012 with the I6? You'll need to spring for the F30 335i.

I personally think the 2012 F30 328i with the turbo 4 will be a great ride.

Special Order 2011 328i

SamS,

Yesterday, I went back to two dealers that claimed they had a slot left, and another local dealer who I hadn't tapped already. When I told them I had cash, they all said they could get me one. I had already gone through Costco to get a good starting point on a fair deal and I used that to quickly get them in my price range. I ended up getting it for $300 below Edmunds True Market Value (and $250 over invoice). I spent most of the day negotiating and landed my price at about 9:30pm.

This morning I paid my deposit and am now waiting on my production number.

I'm excited!

This car is actually for my wife and I just didn't want to wait until spring to get it for her. Fortunately for me, when we're together, I'm always the one behind the wheel, so I'll be putting most of the miles on it.

I was at the dealer today to get the Performance Power Kit mod done and stopped by to see my CA. He showed me on their bulletin that although E90 production ends this month, E91 wagon production will continue until June 2012. Good news if you want one, as I thought it was supposed to end this month as well.

I picked up the new car last Monday

Well...it took 7 weeks to get here, but we finally took delivery of my wife's custom ordered E90. It's really sweet! We've never had a car this nice. We've put about 350 miles on it and I still can't believe how smooth the ride is.

It was well worth the wait!

Did you go with steptronic or manual? Just curious. Also, which dealer? I'm also in Kennesaw.

Ditto. Garland Helton was my CA and is the best car salesman I've ever dealt with - period. He was recommended to me by 2 or 3 people, who all had similar experiences. Hope you enjoy the E90 as much as I have mine.

Brand spanking new to the forum...

Don't when when the last German-produced E90 is, but mine is a S. African build, ordered 9-28, production began 10-19, and as of today, "in the body shop" with an expected completion date of 11-2. Has to be very close to being the last one built anywhere (dealer told me there were 3 slots left on the day of order).

Taking SC performance center delivery, date tbd. This is turning into a true test of patience. I already have my winter wheels/tires, and CDV delete valve.

Can't wait though; I've wanted this car for years...

Tasman Green Metallic, Dakota Beige, 6MT, cold weather, sport, Nav, H-K sound.

One of the first and one of the last

I had one of the first 330xi and today signed the papers to take an "on a ship" one of the last 6MT 328xi. According my dealer the last 6MT's have been made or in production status.
Will be interesting to see how much an e90 has or hasn't changed.
