Michelin PS2 vs PS3

The debate rages on...

What are the better tyres - the Michelin Pilot Sport 2 or Michelin Pilot Sport 3?

I would have thought the PS3s, given that they are a later model but have done some browsing and have found that on the whole, they are cheaper than the PS2s???

Also, I have sourced some PS2 rears for my e90 and am about to buy some fronts - but am unsure whether I should simply match or combine with PS3s....

Any advice pls???

I've started to get quotes too. PS3 seems to be the 'eco' version of the PS2, eg the PS2 is more sporty, PS3 better mileage? Website is not clear.

set of PS3's is 1050 here for staggered 18" set up (mounted & balanced)

Alternatively i was quoted the new Bridgestone Potenza S001 at 870

I wanted to know about Falken 452's, but haven't found a tyre shop that has them. Looking at internet prices a set would cost 550-600, free delivery. But then still mounting & balancing = not the much lower cost I expected.

So far i noticed the low cost tyre shops charge more for mounting, balancing, and alignment

As far as I was told, PS3s are a harder compound than the PS2s and as such the PS2s are more performance orientated. I didn't know you could get the same size in both compounds. Even though the PS3s are newer, they aren't as performance orientated as the PS2s.

I found that the PS2s in my size (265/30/19) were being phased out and replaced by the new Supersports. As such I have PS2s on the front and I've also got a set of Supersports for the rears.

Both being Michelin's however, I would have thought that performance would be pretty great eh fellows??

I am tempted to go for the PS3s because rubber aint cheap and a few more miles helps the purse strings...

Would there be any issue with mixing PS2s and PS3s though???

Just get the Michelin Super Sports tires. I have them on my car since April and they're truly great.

They're non-rfts.

Costco currently have 20% off on a set of 4 Michelins until this Sunday so they're a fair bit cheaper than they are online and fitting is free. The 265/30/19s came to under 250 fitted each whereas Camskill have them for 281+delivery+fitting.

20% that's good. I'm looking into the ps3 also.
I've seen them online at kwik-fit for around 150 each inc fit for NRF

I had PS2s and now i have PS3s. The only thing I concluded so far, is that the PS2s were better on dry roads while PS3s are better in the wet. I'll get the super sports next. However, cheaper version will be considered too since tires don't last too long on my 335d, at least for the rears

I wouldn't let RFTs on my car if they paid me for it.

Besides, there are no RFTs which are specced up to 300 km/h anyway.

I ordered them from a guy in Manchester - he sells tyres and had 2 of them...price wise, probably average.

If they can't supply you with the tyres on the day then get them to sign a voucher and it can be redeemed when they have them back in stock. I know this as I used to work there when I was still at uni.

I wouldn't get too hung up on the ps3 vs super sports as they are all great tyres. These are sizes that Camskill stock in super sports in 18s:

I think it safe to assume Costco will have/be able to order the same sizes.
