Confused. What's it doing on your company car list if there is an issue with MPG? Surely it simply wouldn't be on there [if your business does not like the car's economy]?

times have probably moved on, but i'm in a borrowed 318i se auto on a 1999 t plate, if pootling about it's ok, but my gosh try and do anything more than pootling it's like come on and so course. when i get the choice i prefer the other option on the drive a ford ka LOL

maybe a bit harsh, but unless it's moved on, i'll pass. is the 318d, 320d or 320i on the list?

The E92 M Sport is a beautiful car. It now comes with leather as standard as well.

As others have said, the 318i isn't the quickest in the range, but to be offered one of the best looking cars on the road as a company car?

I say go for it. You should expect around 40 mpg around town.

Btw Carlos, the 318i M Sport was added in April.

Very much a case of 'all show and no go', but if that floats your boat. I had an E91 320i and that wouldn't pull the skin off a rice pudding, the 318i must be even worse. Economy won't be up to much either as it's a lot of car to pull around. I guess if you spend most of your time in town, someone else is buying the fuel and you are not bothered about performance it does have its place.

I have a 318i m sport touring (auto) and I am getting 34 mpg with about 40% town driving, when I reset the MPG and drive around town I will get about 25 - 28 MPG, it is not great.

As for the power, once I got used to it I don't notice the problem, you learn to drive with what you have, think of it this way, you will be less likely to get a speeding ticket in a 318i!

One other thing, I would not buy another 318i, power does not bother me too much but it is under powered.

I still think you should consider this car. You have to remember that a forum such as this attracts enthusiasts, a number of whom drive 330 or 335's. They are bound to look slightly askance at a 318i.

However, the truth is that all 3's are good cars. They have perfect balance and drive like a dream. Whatever the engine.

If you can accept the lack of power, you will be driving one of the sexiest cars on the road. And the general public will will neither know nor care about the size of your engine.

Be prepared for admiring glances.

Stuart.

Well sadly for you thats the way bmw is going.. next 325 is a 4 pot.

4 pots have their place especially over 200bhp.

todays 4 pots are better than last gen 6 pots anyway, well the diesels are anyway

I was offered a brand new 318i M Sport Coupe a few weeks back. Roughly 7K off list, decent spec, but with 18" alloys, as opposed to 19"s. I was seduced by it, having had a 335d M Sport Coupe a few years back, but common sense prevailed. I was in the market for a economical diesel, a 120d or 118d M Sport, but the dealer dangled the carrot and I nearly bit! Here is the offending article......

My friends on here, saved me from another bout of financial ruin....

Seems stupid to want an "Economical" car and then want to wax 20k+ on a nearly new or new 318i

The depreciation on that matchbox of an engine will surely murder any money you save by going for a 318i

Get the 320D with its 184bhp even if you have to get one slightly older
