RAIN --> 330i E90 Sunroof leaking.....

Due to the heavy rainfall and tornado watch today in Southern Cal.....water got inside through my sunroof. When I drove off....a giant stream of water came gushing down from the center night light like someone pissing down on my car....got my boy all wet. Sunroof was 100% closed and locked! Another disappointed issue with the 330i E90........lately, my steering wheel has been locking on me.....you know, the little symbol of the "steering wheel with a lock" around it.....

The car will probably start to rust from the inside out....that's a first.

That sucks. Had a similar problem with a e320 a few years back. When it would rain heavily, water would stream in from the screws on the "oh shit" handle on the rear passenger side. It just came out of the MB pre owned warranty but the dealer split the costs to fix it.

Sucks none the less.

Sounds like the drain tubes are plugged. There are 4 of them, one at each corner of the sunroof opening. The steering wheel on my E90 started acting up when the battery was at the end of its life.....with a new battery the steering lock issue cleared up mostly...still does it once every 4-6 months.

The drain tubes are clogged with debris most likely. Same happened with my e53 x5 which would cause a puddle of water on the front floor. Try to clean it out with a small probe or try to blow pressurized air through the tubes.

Get that looked at sooner than later unless you want to get stuck somewhere. I had that problem show up out in Borrego Spgs. one evening. Comfort access equipped E90 330i would not start (turned out to be a key malfunction) and steering wheel would not unlock.

I ended up having to get the car towed to Escondido, which was kind of tricky since it was parked in a spot that made it tough to get the car on the flatbed tow truck when we were unable to turn the wheels. The steering lock issue is fixable through software update. Take it in.

With my last car, an 07 e90 I had a leak issue but it was with the windshield. Apparently the glue dried and water leaked in to the ac system and rusted the fans. We did not know where the leak was coming from and it took 2 weeks for the dealer to locate it. At least you know the location of the leak trust me you are in better shape then most with leak issues. Good luck with this hopefull it doesn't co$t u a lot.

its likely your sunroof drains are clogged causing them to not drain at all so your sunroof fills with water. when you drive off-it sloshes out of the sunroof draining tray in front of the sunroof and finds its way down. sometimes its the apillars, sometimes the light, sometimes the vanity mirror area...

Had the exact same experience a few weeks ago while I was in NJ. There was a hard driving rain and the water came in from the exact same place and in the exact same way as you described. My wife thought I didn't have the sunroof closed all the way...and I began to believe that because we've had some pretty hard rain here in CA the last few days and yet no water coming in

Why don't you take a hose and put water on it and see where it's leaking and stop it before the rain comes?

good luck.

why dont you cover the top of your car with something during the rain so it doesnt get in, or something along those lines?

i really hope it doesnt screw over your interior bro
