Weird Battery Issue

Yesterday I stopped for lunch at Five Guys. 25 minutes later, I get back in my 09 335 and there's no electrical power. I get a jump, drive to the dealer, and 24 hours later they tell me all the diagnostics are negative and the battery is actually overcharged (probably because of the jump). Anyone have this happen or have any ideas what might of happened? Dont want to be stranded at lunch again.

Cross your fingers, some have had strange electrical shut-offs due to fuse box issues (expensive repair, covered under warranty). The battery management system has also been known to occasionally go bad, and some people have had bad experiences with batteries lasting only a few years.

Of course pop your trunk, remove the right cover and check your battery connections are all secure.

There was an alternator issue as well, but I think it's reserved for us lucky 06 owners

what is this alternator issue with 06 cars?

i just got a red battery message today while driving but it went away after a few seconds.
then when i switched off the engine, it would not start again before several tries. no cranking whatsoever.

i ran a diagnostic test and got these error codes:
CAS A0B4: Engine start, starter operation
DME 2E97: Alternator - electric

My car is a 08/2006 built E92 335i.
Thanks

The issue with the Fuse Box Battery Feed Cable can be found here. In the first link i was able trace it down with the help of another member "bmertek". the second link is from another member that had the dealership fix it after multiple attempts and a high bill (luckily covered under his warranty)

I can say that if it a fuse box/ B+ issue then a Jump start would not help.

Just happened to me again and I'm stranded in a thunderstorm. Any advice for what I should scream about at my incompetent local dealer?

If it is the B connection- Reach behind the fuse box towards the passenger side of the car. You will feel the large battery cable coming in to feed the distribution of power. Wiggle it a few times until you see the done lights come on. Once they come on the car will start.

Pm - me if you need more help

If it is the B plus cable at the fuse box you should be able to pop your hood and and have 12 volts at the jumper posts.

This means it is just the internal fuse box not receiving power - hence the need to wiggle the connecting battery cable behind the fuse box.

Test for voltage under the hood before gripping at the service dept about the fuse box issue.

Don't want you to look crazy if it isn't the battery connection the fuse box

Do you have anything to back that up? I've never heard of a recall on any batteries for the e9x.

Also there are AGM and non-AGM lead acid batteries ranging from 56aH all the way up to 100aH.

I doubt all those batteries have been recalled. Maybe one type, like a 70aH AGM. However that will be vin specific and won't affect a wide range of e9x models otherwise we would have heard about this by now....
