The code does not trigger the Service Engine Soon light. That's the problem; there is no warning available.

Sorry for this noob question, but which BT scan tool do you use? There's many different (pricey) choices on the Bavarian Technic website, and then there's this cheap one from Burger Tuning (called a CT scan tool), but I'm not sure if it can accurately detect all fault codes:

Anyone interested in a cable should read the coding section. You can buy a cable for $90 ($35 for '06 drivers) which will not only let you read and reset codes, it won't be limited by VIN, and you can also do some coding once you have it set up!
Might not be easier, but for 06 drivers, much much cheaper and definitely gives you more options. |

I am at 106,000 miles with my 330i on the original pump. Debating on when to change it. I have a Peake scanner so I may just keep an eye out for the codes and then change it if the codes pop up. I actually have almost 3,000 more miles of carmax extended warranty left so hopefully it fails sooner rather than later. Once it gets beyond the warranty period I will probably just change it out along with the hoses for piece of mind since I live here on the surface of the sun.

I was doing some heavy runs yesterday and noticed after shutting the car off I can hear noise from the water pump cycling on shut off...seems like its nearing its end of life, I'm at 60k miles...were you guys getting noise from it after shut off before it went and did you replace the thermostat on it as well?

The water pump is electric, it may run after you shut the car off in order to cool the block down, this isn't a sign of impending failure.
It can also run in cold weather when you shut down and use the 'rest' function. |

Do the thermostat and coolant change too while down there. Maybe even the radiator hoses if they look all worn out. |
