I doubt handling is better with H&R sports v. BMW PS springs and matched bump stops...hardly any travel with H&R

H&Rs are too low for my liking. If I really choose to lower I might go for Eibach, but at this point, I think I will stick with BMW PS springs, and maybe someday, do the coilover conversion with swift springs that Harold sells. That is if I keep the car long enough. Im at 94,000 miles now, so maybe 50,000 more assuming the car stays reliable...

just an update on my previous post about adjusting the rear konis (compress to adjust). I took them out yesterday, and adjusted them again.. Previously, since I didn't have a bench vise, I just put the top nut on the shaft, and compressed the shock against a towel on the floor and turned, holding the nut. Well, the nut must have also been turning, which is the reason I didn't feel the stops at the ends of adjustments.

This time, I used a pair of vice grips clamped on the end of the shaft, so I could make sure it didn't turn. Definitely felt the stops this time and re-adjusted them 1.5 turns from full soft (about half a turn from full stiff), and it's much better. I'll see how that feels for while before adjusting again (if needed).

Can u explain a bit more about the clicks and what they feel like?

There are no actual clicks, but you'll feel a stop at full soft and then it goes 2 complete turns until it stops again at full stiff. I turned it to full stiff and then backed off half a turn.

you have to compress the shock shaft completely to engage the adjustment mechanism. If you don't engage the adjuster, you can just keep spinning the shock forever. I was using a wrench to hold the top nut in place while I adjusted it the first time, but although the nut felt tight, it was still turning, so I didn't adjust them properly.

so this time, I used a pair of vise grips clamped to the end of the shock shaft which I could hold against my shoe while I turned the shock (while it was fully compressed). This time I felt the stops at the beginning and end of the adjustment range.

How stiff are you going to set them Fraggy?
I'm having a set of Koni sports installed next week and want to get the rears right, so they don't have to come out again.

Its so hard to decide. I feel that with a 500lbs rear spring, 1 turn should be enough. I know a lot of the H&R guys are doing 1.5 turns, but that rear spring was listed at over 600lbs when it was on the Spring Rate sticky.

Also based on Mike-y's statements I want to go to 1.5 anyways so I am not disappointed that rear still bounces but at this point I am not sure, sorry man. I'm hoping to get an appt with a good installer next week.

I was debating between Euro Auto Spot and Group 5. Who is B&G?

i'd go EAS out of the two. B&G specializes in VW and E46 stuff. one of the guys is a friend and helps me out with stuff every now and then but its almost impossible to mesh up with his schedule

Just a quick update.. I'm liking the rears at 1.5 turns so far, and will probably leave them that way. Could probably even go a bit stiffer, but it may start to affect ride quality.

Now I have to stiffen up the fronts a bit more to match, but that's easy

Is that 1.5 turns from soft or stiff?

1.5 turns from full soft, or 0.5 from full stiff.

btw, on the rears, it says clockwise = stiffer.. while the front is opposite, so keep that in mind.
