I need some help, please

About two months ago my 330i began to want to turn off when I turned it on or when I was in idle. The SES light came on and I had it scanned and it returned error code for bad MAF sensor. I had it ordered and I installed it. Now the same problem is occurring but throwing out P1415 Air Pump Circuit Malfunction/ (AIR) System Bank 1. I searched the forum and didnt find too many posts regarding P1415. Did my air pump really go? or is something else the problem? has anyone had this issue?

I am getting the same code P1415 - it says secondary air pump. I am also getting a P0597 Theremostate heater circuit control open. It idles rough, I cleaned the MAF sensor, checked all of the coil packs and still can't figure it out. The scan says my
O2 Sensors are putting out .8 Volts each. I have checked the intake for leaks and can't find any. From what I have searched the 330i doesn't have a secondary air pump. Anyone have any ideas on what is causing this?

Hey did you ever find out what the problem was???? I am having the same problem. In my mind I am thinking it's the Ignition coil... Actually I am praying it's the ignition coil, cause lord knows I cant afford to do any big work on this car again...

Let me know thanks!

Seems that you need a new secondary air pump or relay. It's part of your emissions system, which mixes fresh air and exhaust to reduce tail pipe emissions. E46s commonly saw relay failures for the secondary air pump. I'd start checking relays, and if the pump is bad, replace the pump, gasket, and valve for the secondary air pump.

Relay Location and color description (Salmon):
http://forums.bimmerforums.com/forum....php?t=1930976

Obviously, if anyone has the Bentley Manual and can look up the locations of the relay, fuse, pump, and valve, that would help you a lot further.

It's a very common part, my guess without researching is that all of the I6 engines from the 90's on have them. The part location is posted above in vague terms, but a Bentley manual would give exact locations. It seems the most common cause is the relay rather than the pump itself. A simple multi-meter would be an easy way to check before wasting time and money.

I've been hitting the books- this seems to be correct. I assume there's simply a vacuum valve somewhere. I would guess either this valve is stuck (did it start when it got cold?) or there's a vacuum leak somewhere.

I'm assuming mine is a leak I checked around the intake and mass don't see anything, sprayed carb cleaner & waited to see if revs went up and no luck. However I just got the vehicle and noticed oil leak from the valve cover gasket in the back that drips on the exhaust manifold assuming from a smell I get once in a while, I'm not sure if I'm getting a air leak from there since they said the bolts on the valve cover are plastic material and tend to break from the heat of the motor.

Call the dealership and ask them how much they charge for a diagnostic test. Maybe its not that much...

that's really your suggestion? Maybe he should throw salt over his shoulder and say beetlejuice three times
Perhaps posting this in a technical forum would help the original poster. Someone there usually has good advice.

Was this ever figured out?? I replaced my starter and intake manifold gasket and now I'm throwing p1415 and idling rough at fold starts. I'm about to check my coils cause I'm also showed misfire in cylinder 2. Don't want to pay another $135 for the dealer to diag. Any suggestions???

In OP case I am interested in the resolution, in your case I had the similar issue after my starter was replaced and the resolution was to remove and re-install the intake manifold, new seals intake to head part#11617547242. On my 325i you could actually hear a very slight whistling!

If you have a vacuum leak you will not move the correct amount of air pass the Air Mass Flow Sensor which can give you a P1415.
