2007 328i Fuel Pump Failure

Hello -

Today I was informed by the BMW service center that the fuel pump needed replacement.

My car has less than 46K miles on it. Did a bit of research and came across this Wikipedia link...

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/BMW_3_S..._pump_failures

When I purchased the car last year, here was no owners manual so I'm not sure if I have the N54 engine referred to in the article.

The service person at the dealership said that there was no recall on the fuel pump.

Any and all advice is greatly appreciated. I love the car but am shocked that this pricey repair after only 45K miles.

Cheers,

sosa98

You don't have the n54. Sorry to hear you're having trouble.

Try some searching here being careful to avoid 335/HPFP/n54/etc. issues.

Good luck!

You've got the N51 or N52 if you have a 328.

The High Pressure Fuel Pump failures that are so very common and have a 10 year warranty/recall on them belong to the 335i.
The 335i has a High Pressure fuel pump
and the 328i has a normal fuel pump.

As far as i know, the 328i does not have fuel pump issues, but that doesn't mean that the part can't still fail. I would not expect the pump to fail again, so don't worry.

Many people have improbable things happen in their lives. Some win millions of dollars in the lottery. You've just won the 328i fuel pump failure lottery. Congrats!

You are so right. I googled 2011 hyundai sonata fuel pump failure, and to my surprise, I found one person who's Sonata is like a 335i.

Yeah, you just got unlucky. Modern fuel (supply) pumps will usually go well beyond 150,000 miles. My E36 is still on the orginal pump at 208,000 miles and over 15 years.

What did they charge you for the job? Looks like the retail price on the pump is $220 and it's much easier than changing the HP pump on the direct injected cars.

The same supply pump is used on the 325, 328, 330 and 335.

Wow, pretty rare. I think you might be the first on these forums with a N52 to have their fuel pump fail.

Not sure if serious...

Umm every car has a fuel pump... not every car has a High Pressure Fuel Pump like the kind found in a 335i.

I had the fuel pump go in my 325xi last year. Its difficult to diagnose at first because the car only throws a generic ODB code. It does trip a SES light, but I didn't see any symptoms until the car started doing some rough idle during cold starts. It would eventually just bog down and stop while driving low speeds, less than 10mph.

It's certainly possible, but not as widespread as the HPFP issues.

Yes HPFP is what I meant..the fuel pumps should go for 100K..even the 335i.. but as we know they are flawed

Trying to revive this thread for my own benefit...Sosa98, what were the symptoms that you were dealing with when the fuel pump went? Would the car start at all? I'm having an issue with my fiancee's car http://www.e90post.com/forums/newthr...ostthread&f=15 and wondering if it might, in fact, be her fuel pump.

Thanks!

maybe had the wrong gas in for a while, or really bad gas.

me and my buddy went to a lake, put gas in at some butfukt station in the middle of no where, totally destroyed his pump, had mineral deposits from the gas just sitting too long, or so they said.
