FK Silverline - Rear Adjustment Perch at top of spring or bottom

I have the fk silverline coilovers and had a quick question.

In the rear should the adjustable perch be seated at the bottom of the spring or at the top?

top, Most if not all coilover setups for the 335i are set this way.

bilstein setup.

Ok, my mechanic setup the perch at the bottom and I had a feeling something was wrong since I couldn't get in there to make a height adjustment.

Guess I will have to go back and get it setup at the top instead.


EDIT: Mechanic just texted back saying it doesn't matter where it's located... I'm guessing the main point of having it at the top is so that its easily height adjustable?

yeah, I agree with jorge.

However, the Sonic Tuning coilovers have the perch sitting at the bottom. Why? no clue.

I think they said because it's more stable? yet, it'd make adjusting ride height a serious pita.

I have FK's did it at the top, I tried the bottom and didnt see how it would of worked due to the positioning of the rubber spring cover and control arm seat.

Hmm, my mechanic set it at the bottom not sure how he got it to work.... should I be concerned or just go in at a later date when I get some welding work done? Seems to be sitting well at the moment.

Hmm like kmoto said...it will be a pain in the near future if you decide to adjust height but if youre not going to then i dont see any issues with it.

Yeah looks like I would have to drop the control arm in order to adjust them the way it's seated now which would be a pain. I will get it redone whenever I go in I guess.

Tee are you riding on the lowest setting at the moment? Your car seems to be sitting pretty low, my settings look like they will only go down another inch and it seems like another inch down still won't be that low.

Oh heck no! It can go about down about another 1.5 inch but then my quarter panels will be riding on the barrel. The FK bump stops are they only things preventing them from kissing lol. You still have the option of removing one collar need it be.

since the thread is already open, is there a particular reason why you guys went FK over the other commonly used brands such as KW/Bilstein, etc.?

A VERY reputable and well known BMW mechanic in my area mentioned that he would recommend them over KW V2 so that was my selling point.

Who ever installed your coilovers should not be a mechanic or at least should not be installing suspensions components. I would take it somewhere else. that is horrible. did they not read the instructions. how did they get the spring to seat up top? did they place it in the cup perch? please post pics...

Man, I'm really regretting the decision to goto this new shop now.

My regular shop which is the most reputable shop in the Toronto area required me to dropoff the car at 6am and pick it up at night or the next day at lunch, they are way overbooked so it wasn't feasible for me so I ended up going to a new shop at the recommendation of a few locals.

I'm not very familiar with suspension work and proper terminology for the various parts but he placed the top of the spring in the black rubber piece from the OEM springs that looked like it has a nipple up top.

Looks like I need to get under my car and post up pics of everything to make sure the job wasn't totally messed up. Really regretting my decision to goto this shop now, I was planning on getting about 2000 dollars worth of more labour done from him, thank god I delayed those appointments.

Went back to the mechanic and had the install done properly.

I am VERY satisfied with the coilovers, definitely a good setup. The only weird thing is after having the mechanic adjust the height all 4 corners ended up being TOTALLY different haha.

My drivers side is fine... it sit's at what is commonly refered to as "0 finger gap" however my passenger side is WACKK... my front has about 1.5 finger gap, but my rear has about a full inch of the tire tucked and the fender almost touching the lip of the wheel LOL... guess I need to adjust the height properly myself and see what's going on.
