Idrive Business Navigation - Cant read Maps - some help

Hi all,
I have just purchased a BMW E90 06 325i with Idrive and Business navigation. When i took the car for a test drive the owner mentioned to me that it sometimes has trouble reading the map DVD. Was coming up with cant read CD.

After I purchased the car this was working for a few days.

I took out the DVD becuase I thought it was only used to update the system not used to search through maps.

So when it asked for it I put the DVD back into I drive but I have the following problems.
1. Every time i goto search for a street - keeps asking me to insert navigation DVD.
2. Keeps saying cant read disc or disc is not correct format

What I have done so far
1. Ran a CD Cleaner - No luck dosnt even load the CD
2. put in DVD with MP3 - No luck dosnt even load or read the cd - comes up with cant read disk
3. Put in CD - same problem

Based on this and the ticking sound the business nav makes it sounds to me like the laser is either out of alignment or infact dead.

I have no problems playing CD's or MP3's from the stacker in the boot.

I spoke to a workshop and they mentioned that this is a common problem and costs around $800 AUD dollars to get fixed by one of the manufactures.

Just wanted to ask what my options are? Its a bit over priced to just replace / fix a DVD optical laser.

support would be appreciated!

Sounds like you might need to have the DVD drive replaced.

The DVD drive on the Professional Navigation (not sure if the Business unit is the same hardware just a different screen) seems pretty easy to replace and the parts are about $100 USD for a DVD drive.

Hi Dracon, This is exactly it. Thanks so much!

Does any one know where I can best buy this from? I want to try to stay away from BMW in Aus as I think they are way over priced.

Any recommendations would be ace!

Cheers
