What would you guys do? (Body shop issue)

Long story short, this body shop in Ambler PA fixes all the BMWs that come from the local dealership, color matched my Nogaro blue S4 bumper in the past etc so I gave them my aero lip to paint and while they nailed the color, I'm less than ecstatic about the fitment... And it's adhesive-d on. They made a big stink of keeping my car all day to "do it right" claimed they had to take the bumper off (which they didn't), and now those points in the middle don't line up right and I think, after paying the shop $400 otd, it could fit better.

Am I being OCD or would you guys take it back and request they get it fitted better? It's oem BMW part not a rep so I expected it to be perfect.

Honestly, OCD. These lips never fit 100% without a lot of sanding, hardcore glue and some filler. I just riveted mine on honestly for that exact reason. Plus, when I inevitably maim it on a curb, i'll just pop the rivets and buy a rep on ebay.

Gotcha. Yeah I suppose I had unrealistic expectations. Oh well it looks good from a few feet away

If it's any consolation, the paint looks immaculate. I was too lazy to paint mine haha. Here's mine for comparison of fitment.

They probably figured you wouldn't care considering the holes in your bumper...

I'd be upset but probably wouldn't want to leave the car with them for another day.

Believe me, I understand your frustration. I like things to be perfect so I don't trust anyone else to do anything to my car. You should take it back if you don't mind being without the car for a while. It should be perfect for $400.

These lips never fit on correctly. They always look tacked on.

You will just have to see what other members did and do it yourself. Body shop did a good job on the paint.

Even OEM add-on bits never fit 100%. It would take a lot of fussing and custom work to get that fit completely perfect and even then you have ugly plate holes drilled in the bumper just a few inches above--so what would be the point? Paint matches, fitment is good not great, I vote that you leave it alone. That is just the way a piece like that fits, OEM or not. Consider it a lesson and just enjoy your car. You will smack that thing into a curb soon anyway, jacking up the fitment again.

On my 335i I have had fitment issues even OE hood fitting with bumper and skirts. If you look carefully the front end is not symmetric nor height even. It annoys the hell out of me.

Overall, I think they did a good job. With time you won't even notice it or care (hopefully).

Eh, it is what it is. I called them and they said they "expected a problem" as they echoed most of the sentiment in this thread.

Like you guys said the paint looks great, I'll just enjoy it

Honestly dude, it looks fine. I wouldn't think too much about it. No one will notice it, that's the important part.

i think your car needs to stop by the orthodontist, it has an underbite

for 400 i expect immaculate work... and its OEM so why isnt it fitting correctly? just my thoughts.

I don't care what anyone here says, unless the shop had told me before hand that they couldn't get a good, flush fitting, there is no way I'd pay them for what you pictured. I don't really care what they needed to do -- sanding, twisting, heating, invoking the patron saint of add-on parts, whatever -- to get it right, they quoted me a price for doing it, and I expect in return that they are pros and know what they are doing, so they need to do it. Period.

The adhesive thing may not be a big deal; it may be that that is just how these things are affixed to cars, but I would have thought that such parts are bolted on not glued on.

That's way off. Mine was not OEM, and it fit perfectly. I wouldn't settle, especially since you spent so much paying them to do it "right."

To OP- For $400, take it back and have those fools make it work till you're 110% satisfied.
