Kyle,

I like your first shot. The sun is a bit overexposed. I like the silhouettes of the kids in the foreground though. It would've been nice to see a slower shutter speed to make the water seem less rough. But, then the sun would've probably been even more exposed (unless you used an neutral-density filter or something) and the kids probably wouldn't be as sharp because they would have to hold still.

The 2nd shot is just kind of boring. Technically it's fine, just boring... you have quite a few dead leaves there too.

The last shot was pretty cool. Almost has an abstract feel to it. But, the piece of wood that's in focus just takes too much of the whole frame.

Thanks for the comments Ashu.

I haven't started into the filter game yet. Still trying to get good, composed shots that make sense and can be appreciated.

I have other shots on my camera of the last frame with that piece of tree in the lower part of the picture. I'll get it loaded up on here and see if that's any better. I was trying to go an abstract route, so I'm surprised that you took it the way it was attended...ahah

no problem. Don't even think about filters just yet (except maybe a nice circular polarizer). Just keep it in nice and simple for now. Adding filters, strobes, and other accessories complicates things.
