New 335i owner

G'day all! Long time reader, first time poster here. Lots of good information here, thanks to everyone for contributing. This forum is basically one of the reasons why I bought this car.

Last week I bit the bullet and joined the club – became an owner of 2010 335i.

Have been looking for one with manual transmission in NSW. But for whatever reason manual versions of 335i were mostly available in Victoria. Sydneysiders seem to prefer automatics? After waiting for many months with no result I decided to go ahead and buy the car interstate.

Nice white 335i with manual transmission, M-Sport, only 33k. Red leather interior. My wife looked at the pics and congratulated me on my mid life crisis. So be it. I even changed my username on e90post.com to suit.

I never bought a car interstate, wasn't sure how hard it was and first was thinking about paying third party to inspect and deliver the car. But then ended up sorting everything myself. Contacted the seller, organised pre-purchase inspection, did the finance. Started the process on Monday and had the car on Thursday. Flew to Melbourne and drove it back to Sydney.

The car is fantastic, what can I say. Sits on the road firmly, easy to direct, effortless power. To tell you the truth I have never sat in 335i before, let alone test driven. It was basically a “blind date”. Or “pre-arranged marriage” if you will. No regrets though.

I originally wanted N54 engine as some people are saying it responds better to mods. But ended up with N55 which I think is still good (less problems with HPFP?).

Planning to do JB4 and air intake. Possibly down pipes too.

I was also going to do the Clutch Delay Valve delete, after reading some horror stories about it. But to my surprise the clutch works fine, no delays, grips straight away. Maybe the CDV was removed on N55 models?

Another pleasant surprise was the way the car sounded. Coming from Subaru the sound I heard from most of the 335i that I saw in Sydney was a bit underwhelming. So before buying the car I was trawling Youtube looking for mods that give meatier exhaust note. But what can I say – the car sounds fantastic as it is. Plenty of crackle even on low revs. And after 3000 rpm it opens up and sounds just awesome.

Anyway, it is early days and I am still getting used to my new car but already enjoying it immensely.

Sorry no good pics yet. Just this one when it was on Carsales.

Congrats - on the purchase of a great looking car; and also for your first post as owner. White seems to be the grail colour for some people on here.

That was a brave decision but if you had already spent time on here, you would have known you were on a winner ....

I suspect the exhaust might have already been modded in some way if it sounds good as is. Catless down pipes will add to it and give you good gains with a tune.

Congrats on the new car... looks great, joined the club myself only recently as well.... guys here are great and always willing to share their experience... first question is always ... what mods.... so let me get in first

JB and charge pipe (stock one is plastic and the diverter valves can leak under the higher boost the JB creates)

Black kidney grills (kinda a modder badge)

Upgrade angle eyes (day light running light rings - to get rid of the brown glow)

Best retailer in Aust is BMR autowerkes, Stuart is a great guy and they have the best range of products for the 335i http://www.bmraw.com/

Personally I think the 335i is BMWs best kept secret.. so welcome to the clan... Oh and BTW MLC (crack up)

Thanks JJH. The white/black/red combo did it for me. I had white cars before and in my opinion this colour makes a car to stand out more. And thats what the 335i deserves!

Not sure if the first owner did any mods. He did not sound much like a person who would be into this. Plus the mechanic at the pre-purchase inspection did not notice any mods. But the first owner was definitely a sports car enthusiast and a BMW fan.

Thanks Drill.
Yes my plan is JB and air intake first. This combo did wonders on my Subaru. Then downpipes, need to do a bit more research on these.

As for Angel eyes - mine is LCI model - the lights seem bright enough and blue-ish colour. I have not had a chance to have a proper look. But that's the reflection I see in other people car's bumpers in front of me.

At this point of time I am in the "honeymoon" period with my car. Everything seems awesome and super perfect.

Beautiful car. These cars respond so well to modding an in the grand scheme of things they're relatively inexpensive vs what gains you get out of them. Congratulations.

Welcome sir. White on red on an E92, Msport, M3, whatever, is the best colour combo IMHO.

Is that Mineral White or Alpine? Kinda looks like mineral White in the photos if I'm not mistaken.

Nice car and welcome!

I've said it before; Alpine white e92 with M-sport is the best combo.

Glad you enjoy it so much already.

The colour is Alpine White. It looks much nicer in person than on photos.

I occasionally browse carsales for 335i's to see whats out there, and I remember seeing this one for sale.

She's definitely a nice car, and being a rare manual makes it even better to enhance the bmw driving experience.

P.S I highly recommend the UUC short shift kit!

red on white CAN be the best combination. Red interior with woodgrain though is the WORST interior.
