Why isn't the AUTO 335 that aggressive?

Ok. My auto 335i has about 1200 miles on it. But honestly after I turn DSC OFF , I can only spin the tires in 1st gear if I floor it.

Now, I know the manual is more brutal and you can spin the tires like crazy in 2nd gear also.

If I floor it at 4500 rpm in 2nd gear....It Does Not spin the Tires!!!!

Why is it that the auto 335 can't do that? It seems more gentle...

it's not just ur car that goes to all automatics out there. on maunal all you gotta do is dump the clutch and tranny will start spinning according to engine rpm. but in autos there is a torque converter which makes gear shifting more smooth. that's what i understand. you should of got 6spd!!!!!

Actually, I think your experiences are NOT the norm. Even before I added the XEDE (and then PROcede), I experienced much wheel/tire spin with my oem stock RFTs in M1 and even sometimes in M2. With the XEDE or PROcede, forget it...way too much wheel/tire spin in M1, M2, and even sometimes M3...so I got my new wheels with the wider, stickier Michelin PS2s, and I get very little wheel/tire spin now (even with the PROcede).

Why do you want to spin the tires? Enjoy the traction.

Isn't that the truth.

well...traction and power delivery are two different things. Same tires...so same traction. Torque converter is the difference.

My favorite is taking a freeway on ramp in second gear mashing the pedal and watching the triangle light up then shifting into 3rd and hitting 80 in what seems like a second - I have a six speed manual. BMW introduced the SMG as a performance option for those who want the benefits of a manual with the luxury of an automatic. Perhaps you might look into it as an option on your next car. I spoke to a guy in a parking lot with an e46 m3 with SMG - he loves it however admitted it did take some getting used to.

Thats assuming that ambient temp is the same, tire pressure is the same, treadwear is the same, etc etc. But of course, the difference is a clutch and a torque converter. Anyone with a clutch can make the tires spin, regardless of the car. Still remember this Ford Fiesta rental i had one time

Wow... You on your second set of tires yet? I've got the Procede and stomped on it at 20mph and 30moh with DTC on (pushed button once) and get some wheel spin till about 45mph. But that's while rolling already, and the wheelspin is minimal. I haven't tried it from a stand still because I'm afraid of doing what he did in the video. That gets expensive.

I am PROceded and w/ systems OFF I get just a little spin if I nail it from a stop. Rev to about 1300 rpm and hit it. I don't want to spin, but alot of cars on here are really smok'n em up. The car is just GONE. I really want to get an accurate 0-60. It feels low 4's.

Funny, all the AT's beat the MTs at the Drags last night.
All the AT's that have done rolling runs with other MTs, with equal mods, have WON....

the new Steptronics are better, more efficient trannys.

Slush box that shifts quicker than the F1 gearbox in the F360 Modena.
A 'box' that shifts almost as fast the the 'perfect' Audi/VW DSG tranny.

Clutch snobs, like I used to be, just need to grow up.

Here, here KJ, and I am the proof.

I still am somewhat of a clutch snob myself, but only when the auto sucks....these autos do not suck!

OT: Dude I've been spending WAY too much time on the web now that I have a bit of time off.

Won in what, heads up? Bracket? There's a huge difference and everyone knows that it's consistancy that wins...unless it's heads up...but I don't know how good of an argument this is.

So drag racing isn't driving?
It's called the Ultimate Driving Machine.

That means ALL aspects of driving, not just the bumper to bumper commute that most BMW's (including your topless one in NYC) will probably only see!
