Buying Stage 3 intake + Dias

Hi Fellas,

So like many more before me, i'm looking into getting the stage 3 intake.

From what I can find on Ebay it look like i can expect to pay $500 Cad or so for just the manifold and then 300 for each DIAS unit.

Am I crazy, or does that seem extremely expensive for some used gear?
Am I looking in the wrong place?

I'm thinking of just going to a wrecker and trying to find the parts there.

Any advice would be great. or image to show the visual differences between the stage 1 and stage 3 intake so I can know what i'm looking for.

Additionally, I understand that both the state 1 intake and stage three intake have the same part numbers, which seems strange. is there a way to be sure i don't get the wrong one if i order online?

Thank you.

Do you have an old N52 with a magnesium valve cover or a new N52 with a plastic valve cover?

This will dictate which 3-stage manifold will drop in directly.

I believe it is plastic. Would my vin or a picture help?

My cat is a 2007 328i. Both cover types are old now right? lol.

Newer plastic manifolds have integrated PCV systems. Older magnesium manifolds have external PCV systems that sit under the intake manifold. This changes the manifold and piping you need.

i bought a couple years ago. i tried ebay and gave up when i saw 500 US+ for the set.

went to a local scrap yard, they searched their computer and found a 2011 sulev a few states away with a 3 stage. paid 280 for the manifold with both disa's, throttle body, and 12" of all the harnesses.

bought all new gaskets and seals from one of the online bmw dealership parts dept sites, torqued everything, and have had an intermittent vacuum leak every since \_(ツ)_/

Pardon, I should have said I found a manifold from a forum member. Thank you all.

It has Rebuilt DISA and it cost like $390 USD shipped to any US address.

I got mine with both DISAs for $300 CAD. Look around, you can find them. A scrapyard is your best bet. I installed it last night with the Bimmerlabs "330i" tune and holy hell the car feels awesome to drive. I should've done this sooner!

There's more torque down low and the pull after 4k is sooooo sick, pure VTEC! RIP my fuel economy. Accelerating upto 2800ish like I do in city traffic off a light, it picks up much quicker. Before, I'd have to dip into the pedal more to keep up with traffic off a light and I'm finding now it gets going way easier. No 335i duh but it's absolutely faster in the entire rev range. Did not expect the boost in low end torque to be so noticeable.

I'm learning about tunes now, how did you go about getting your Bimmerlabs "330i" tune?

I heard the 330i tune is better for the intake (obviously), and also for the transmission.

I've been running the 328xi tune with a 3-stage for over a year. There was approximately zero difference from just swapping in the 3-stage... if anything it added a slight hesitation to the mid rpms. 330i tune is quite phenomenal as 6ixSpd reports.

Got me excited about the car again

bimmerlabs tune can be downloaded here: https://bimmerlabs.com/
your xi's chassis code/vin won't bring up the tune, you'll need to enter a different chassis code that is from an i.

Note that the 330i tune is not the same as a 330xi tune. I am running the i / non-xdrive variant in my car, and taking a risk that the differences in the oil level sensor between the xi and the i will not be a problem and that i won't grenade my engine. You have to decide if that fits your desire for performance vs desire for engine stability or not.

Wow, that just opened up so many more questions.

Why wouldn't I go for the 330xi tune?
Can we just swap the oil level sensor so there is no risk with going with the 330i tune?

I have a OBD wifi tool, I'm pretty sure it will tell me the oil levels, I could use that for periodic checks and do a + or - to what it shows, right? At that point, seems the risk is minimal, would you agree?

There is no 330xi tune. As far as I know BMW didn't make a 330xi with an MSV80 computer.

Oil level sensor is the same sensor. The difference is the oil pan has a giant hole in it for the front drive shaft.

I personally think the risk is minimal, but there are no guarantees.

You can also pay for a tune from one of the big three tuning places, they all say they make a tune for our xdrive cars with a 3-stage intake. I'm too cheap for that though.

I don't like paying people for things that don't actually involve skill, since I can do that myself. lol.

I'm trying to find a 330 with a VIN that when popped into Bimmerlabs it also has the same DME as what's being listed for me 328xi.

Seems the latest 330i i can find is 2006 and and after 3 vins, none have the required MSV80 option.

What hassmachine did to build the tune that is posted to BimmerLabs *is* a skill I don't have time to develop... futsing about with the raw hex code of the tune and comparing it to others to eek out which parts represent the power class, which are the maps, etc, etc.
Would be nice to send him dollaz.

In any case, sent you a PM. You're right, there are no 330's with an MSV80 in this country. Might not be any anywhere else either. Closest I found was a z4 si... You'll need to put in a 328i (non-xdrive) to get somewhere.

Yes, i understand skill of making a tune, though applying it, if it's something like rooting a telephone, really isn't a skill as you can research and learn to to it your self with little experience.

I don't have issues paying for an actual product.

What happens when the actual product of thousands of hours of work is software?

If someone spends thousands of hours working to make a tool that lets you play the latest playstation 4 games on a cell phone? (yes i know technically an impossibility, but go with me here)
Should I pay for the tool to install it?
Should I pay for the game?

In this case, we're taking a 'game' (modified 330 code from bmw that looks for the low powerclass) and running it on a different platform (a car that is not a 330), using an installer tool (the RSA delete + winkfp)

Should we pay bmw for the 330 code? Should we pay the tuner for their tool to install it? Should we pay the tuner if they package it all together?

You lost me. Pay for what?

BimmerLabs has not offered anything for sale or requested payment for anything?
