Bilstein PSS9 Suspension for E92 335i...

Hurt my back half a year ago so I don't do as many DIY's anymore... But been waiting to lower the car for a while...looks 4x4 with the 20's...$1500 on ebay gets you Bilstein PSS9's shipped to your door from their San Diego warehouse...

I've had KW v2's on e46...praxis on e46...pss9 on e30...I'm impressed by the PSS9 quality and the easy to turn knobs...

The model number is F4-BM5-C050-H1...for all E90, E91, E92 per Bilstein website...

Rear spring perches...

Adjustable knob...

Front assembly...

Rear springs...has a bunch of dead springs...

Here's the car before...the shadow makes it look not as goofy but it is...

Got the work done at EF1...the only place I'd trust...I had to drive over an hour to get here...

On the lift...

Let's see what we are dealing with...wheels off...

Lots of similarities to the E46...

And some differences...

Some more shots...

Behind the brakes...

Remove the big bolt and the lower bushing...

Shock comes out...

Take the spring out...

Disconnect xenon leveler..

And like that rear suspension is out...

Remove the rubber bushings and transfer to coils...

Quick comparo...

New rears in...

Now to the fronts...remove shock tower bolts...

More fun stuff...

Oh yeah take off the calipers...

And linkage thingy...

Remove tie rods...

Pull down...Wow I guess if you just bought the top hats for the front you could do the whole suspension without a spring compressor...

Anyway...stock e92 335i sports suspension up for sale...got 8000 miles on them...any serious offers?

Fronts installed...

And then I forgot to take day time pix...oops...

Fronts set to level 4(lower the stiffer) and rear's set to level 6 per fab's recommendation...no alignment until 3-4 days later...let stuff set first...actually i drove it quite a bit today and it seems fine...but better safe than sorry...

But you get the idea...more pix tomorrow...=)

Excellent pictures and writeup! I'm definitely going for the PSS9s for sure. What made you switch out from KW V2s?

As much info on how it handles would be most appreciated once you get it settled in and aligned. Thanks so much for helping those of us that are considering this mod.

It would really be sweet if you could get together with cujo or someone else that has the Koni fsd/eibach kit and swap cars back and forth and write up a comparative review. Oh, and get a stock suspension to compare with too.

so ive been driving the car around for the last couple of days...the pss9's are pretty good...set at 4 in the front and 6 in the rear...

when you go over a bump on the freeway, it doesn't wobble...especially over periodic bumps where you feel like you are riding a horse...it returns to its height pretty quickly...

on turns its stays pretty planted also...before takign turns at 50/60mph the car would start to tilt...which makes me feel like its going out of control...but now those turns are pretty easy...

I think i am going to keep it on 4/6...its not harsh as all...more pix later

How come the rear has the spring and shock separate? Is this common for most BMWs in general?

Nice write up. I was planning on going with KW V2's, but maybe I should think about going with these. Tough decision, both are great.

If I remember correctly..BMW has been that way for some time now with most if not all their cars.

OK, I just joined this forum. I'm considering the change from my C55 to a 335 sport coupe. But in my test drives (2) I sense that the 335 isn't as stable in fast curves with uneven surfaces as my C55, which handles them wonderfully. From what I've read, the BMW stock springs and shocks were softened by BMW to offset the rougher ride from the runflat tires.

If I decide to buy a 335 I think I would need to firm up the suspension. What would be required to give me a great handling driver that will take highway curves at high speeds and handle unexpected dips and bumps along the way without scaring the bejeezus out of me? I'm not a racer or tracker, just an enthusiastic driver. I like a slightly lower look too. I currently have 19" wheels on my C55, with 35 series on front and 30 series on rear.

What is a typical installed cost of going to Bilsteins or equivalent to improve handling and perhaps lower it a little?
