Navigation Errors: warranty or out of pocket

With out gettin into a long winded explenation of what exactly is going on with my navigation, I've attached a pic of what the BMW tech has written on my invoice with regards the CAUSE (which sums it up very well) and CORRECTION.

I'm trying to get an idea if you guys/gals think this should be covered under warranty or out of pocket.

My car is still under full warranty (actually under a year from service date and at 18,000 km) i am the first owner.

I've included a poll (hopefully it works)

Map data is usually not covered under warranty. Although since they have confirmed problem it probaly will be, but regardless of poll it depends on dealer.

I hear you on the fact that the poll doesn't mean anything as far as the dealer goes.

Just trying to figure out if I'm out to lunch thinking that this should not be an out of pocket expense for the owner (which BTW they are telling me it is)

BMW doesn't supply the map data--Teleatlas does. If the database is incorrect, BMW has nothing to do with it. Map updates are the responsibility of the customer. Roads are changing all the time and the maps are going to have errors as a result--BMW can't help that (and shouldn't have to).

This has nothing to do with roads changing or being added. There's a glitch in the routing logic which has been traced back to the map version.

And if you want to look at it that way, BMW also doesn't supply the HPFP, the batteries, the speakers etc.

BMW chose Teleatas as their map supplier. So yes they have a lot to do with it.
