VIR Trackday
I am doing the VIR HPDE at the end of this month. I am wondering what I should do to prepare my car for the event. It is bone stock aside from a BMW Perf. Exhaust. Thanks.

Is it your first HPDE? If so, I wouldn't do much other than making sure your brake fluid is fresh and your levels are topped off. As you do more events and learn more about your car, you'll start to make the necessary tweeks.
Most will tell you to ditch the runflats, I disagree. For a first event, the RFT's won't limit your ability that much (if at all). For subsequent events, I would look into tires...but probably wouldn't recommend R specs until much later. The R specs are GREAT tires and will stick like glue, but IMHO they hide potential mistakes the driver can make. (A pro driver for Porshe gave me that advice very early on, he recommended suspension upgrades first.) I drove my car stock for a bunch of HPDE's and kept working my way up through the ranks...there is not much you really have to do until the bug bites you and get hooked. ![]() I've since upgraded my brakes, suspension, intake, FMIC, exhaust, tune, etc. Ironically, I got a set of RFT's for free and will be running them at this next event this weekend. Have a ball. ![]() |

yeah, it is my first HPDE. The car recieved a full service before I left for school, and it only has 9500 miles so it has had an easy life so far.

fresh brake fluids, torque wheels, check air pressure.
check you have enough meat on pads and tires, aside form that just get a helmet and you're good to go.

Check fluids, tire condition, brake pads, tire pressure, and tighten down the lugs to spec.....you are good to go for your first event. Have fun!

How did you enjoy VIR? Awesome course. Top notch facilities and prestine pavement. You can really pickup some speed on the back straight.

I'm interested in doing an event myself. I've never participated in any track days, however I've had some time on the bmw factory track down in Grier, Sc.
Kind of ironic I sold my 99 e36 m 2 months ago, picked up an 07 e92 a month ago and am now looking to get an older e36 to dedicate for the track. In the mean time I'd like to try out the 335 see how much I truly enjoy ( really no doubt that ill be hooked). A few questions... I'm down in Virginia beach so I believe it's about a 4 hour drive. Would it be dumb to drive my car there or should I trailer it? A while back I ran into a bmwcca member who told me they organize track days, is anyone here part of that? Roughly how much is a track day? I've come very close to taking my Buell out there as a few of my buddies use to go regularly but I no longer ride any more and can't fight the urge any longer. |
