I'm just curious, but seeing that most (if not all) of the bells are cracked, were those torx screws over torqued during the install? Over torqued + extreme heat cylces can lead to catastrophic failure.

nope those were torqued correctly. my shop is specialized in racing . They have installed a gazillion of BBK.

Short Story:
I have the Stasis/Alcon front BBK. On mine, installer Alek of Alekshop in Dublin CA was curious of a persistent noise coming from rotors. We discovered there was rotor movement of 1/4 inch. All this after driving for several thousand miles and one day of tracking at Infineon Raceway. This is not a good sign.

After talking to the owner (Rob at BR Racing in Los Gatos CA), he was aware of the front left hat through holes becoming enlarged after brake use (from his working relationship with the original brake owner). My thought, "why then install these brakes if you knew their was inherit problem and a possible cause a dangerous situation"? Never went back there for any work.

I got on the phone with Stasis to inform them of my problem, and I learned there are two version of Stasis BBK for the E9X models. Unfortunately having an older model, the rotor's hats are not interchangeable with the newer version.

Fortunately for me, I did not sell my OEM front set of rotors & calipers, so I had original set placed back on the car.

After reading with OP issue, it does seem the Alcon's early hat/bell versions do have an inherit design, manufacture, or material problems.

BTW even though I had this problem, I still enjoy the Stasis/Alcon brake qualities & attributes. I have all new parts and planning to install the new set in a month or two.

I've been running my front 355mm Stoptech BBK without issues for about 10,000km now...great kit but I can't say that for their pads in terms of daily driving...in the mornings when they're cold they have really low bite...once heated they're really good but I'll be looking into a different brand of pads down the road for sure...

Update:

Alcon UK called me back to find out more about my issue. They were really sorry about all the troubles i had with their kit. Also my order never got through from their distributor and they were not happy about it.

They offer to send me FREE of charge New rotors, bells . All assembled and ready for installation.

What can i say.. this IS customer service and a company that is 100% behind the product.

I was looking at braking systems lately and noticed that Alcon stuff is in fact more expensive than AP Racing ?

yeah! they recommended PAGID RS29 so will get a set of those and install everything in spring.

They never mentioned the forum or thread but its kinda strange they suddenly call me and make it up to me that quickly. Anyway i am very happy . Would have been over 1000 pounds....

They probably use google alerts and discovered this. I see this a lot here. Someone complains about a products and the manufacturer comes in for damage control. If you ever own a business, set up google alerts.

These bells are different than the old ones. Big props to Alcon, they really stand behind their products.

Enrita, you're lucky that Alcon covered the cost of hats (bells). For me I'm not the original purchaser, so it's going to cost me under $500 to replace my hats . I've already spent $1250 for replacement parts (rotors & hardware). Are you the original purchaser (I presume so)?

Racing part are not cheap. This give a clue to why some guys opt for selling off their BBK.

The forum had nothing to do with it. They are agood company and have great customer service. Not very popular among the bmw crowd yet but have great reputation on other platforms and are run by several racing teams.

It's been a few months since you've had them installed. How are they holding up this time, and how is the fading?

I am looking at AP Racing/Performance Friction/Alcon BBKs and trying to see if this one is as good as the others, because I like the aesthetics of this one the most. It is great that the company called you and sorted things out.

with the new bells and rotors the brakes are great now. the problem though is that there are not many pads available for it. i could find only FERODO which are kinda old pads technology and XR10 from carbotech which are great for track but very loud if used everyday.

I am looking at AP Racing/Performance Friction/Alcon BBKs and trying to see if this one is as good as the others, because I like the aesthetics of this one the most.
