It's purple because of the camera used to record it, not the metal that the exhaust is made of. Hot exhausts give off large amounts of infrared as well as the red glow as it heats up. If the camera doesn't have a good IR filter on the sensor it will pick up the IR as a purple glow.

Here is a picture showing the same effect on a remote control. They use IR LED's.

That said.....That engine is freaking awesome. I would love to have it shoehorned into my car.
