New 328i owner - lighting questions
Hi all, I've finally attained my dream of making enough money to own one of these amazing automobiles. BMW has always been my dream car, so now that I have one I'm hesitant to do anything that will detract from (or damage) the car in any way.
The first thing that I wanted to do though after buying my car was upgrade the lighting. I'm a huge fan of this LED trend and I think the BMW angel eye LEDs are very elegant. I went ahead and ordered some "plug-n-play" replacement bulbs for my 2008, but I'm wondering now if there are any caveats to adding current-gen lighting to a previous-gen model. I have also found a shop in Los Angeles that sells LED interior lighting that they claim is as close to factory as you can possibly get. My question for the forum is - has anyone else out there upgraded their lighting? Any problems I should be aware of? One thing I've heard is that adding the LED angel eyes and fog lights will cause FM interference, but as I hardly use the radio this isn't a major concern. Anything else to be aware of? Heat generation? Power consumption? Last edited by eldamien; 09-29-2011 at 11:49 AM. |

Congrats with your new BMW. You will be happy with it
About LED and poor radio reception: I changed the head lights of my Smart to LED and that is exactly what happened.... Keep on driving ![]()

Thanks for the response - that's exactly what I was afraid of. I guess I don't listen to the radio enough to make a difference, and if it becomes a problem I guess I can just go back to the regular lights. |

Your BMW is no Smart. I have LED Angel eyes, and a full interior kit and NO radio interference.

Hey c_jeong, do you know of any place in the Irvine area that would od a full conversion like that? I want the angel eyes, daytime running lights, fog lights, and all the interior bulbs (map lights, dome lights, etc) changed to HID/LED but I can't find a place in anaheim that will do it at any price. I called a place in Los Angeles but they want $380 just to change the bulbs (that's just labor, parts not included). I understand labour on a BMW is a bit more expensive thanks to the more exacting specifications (such as...having to take the headlamps OUT to change a bulb), but that seems a bit steep. |

a lot of LED Drivers do cause EM ( electromagnetic interference) which will cause radio interference. Depending what angel eye kit you are looking for, the LUX H8 V3 angel eyes do not cause any interference at all.

I think the pictures and reviews speak for themselves. Oh and best of all no interference issues. Most quality lighting hardware wont cause interference issues. If they do its either a low quality product or perhaps the car is dated and could use new grounds and wiring etc http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=530835 |
