Can brake wear sensors lie?

I've had my CPO for over a year and I'm now into my maintenance contract/cpo warranty period. I've noticed that the mileage until a brake change in the on board computer has actually increased since I bought the car! Is that really possible? At this pace, I may not get one in during my maintenance contract, which would piss me off. I can hear a bit of squealing from time to time- not much. Should I get the sensors checked?

Admittedly I am not an aggressive driver and have a stock E90 '07 328i. I never had to change the brakes on my last car (Accord) before I sold it at about 88k.

why would that piss you off? its not BMW's fault you dont need brakes.

if you are doubting the estimate given by the sensor, you can always visually inspect your brakes.

Yes I think it is possible, particularly if you use your brakes less per mile than the person who owned the car previously.

About a year ago, I decided to change driving habits during my commute. I now stay in the right lane, never tailgate, and engine brake (downshift) whenever it's safe to do so in lieu of using the brakes.

The CBS indicated 22k remaining for my front pads. After changing my driving habits, It rose slowly to 26k and has stayed there for over 10k miles.

In my case, I changed my habits when I had around 60k miles, now I have a little over 80.

Recently, the dealer measured my pad thickness as 9mm which I don't think is inconsistent with the CBS.

Maybe you can have someone check your pad thickness for you?

88k miles on the pads the car came with? You just blew my mind. Do you use a lot of engine braking?

the CBS system uses the DSC system and some other factors to determine mileage remaining based on how often and how hard you brake. it also uses a dual stage sensor that will alert the car of preset thicknesses.

if you drive more conservative than before, it is possible the CBS would add life to the distance. have you been doing a lot of highway driving recently?

just noticed you mentioned squealing, look at the face of the rotors (dont forget the side on the inside of the car), if you see any circular gouges something is wrong.

It can as the sensor is only on one pad and can only indicated wear limit on the particular pad.

What happens if I am at 1000 miles, but BMW says my pads are still good? Will they eventually go to zero and stop? Or will the readout go negative, or will a light come on when the counter hits zero even though I am not close to the 3mm warning sound indicators?

Can anyone please help me out, I made another thread but it is DEAD...
