No problems at all. And now the dashboard noise is sorted too I feel like I've got my new car back.

Garage List
Does the car have to be under warranty for this fix?

Don't think so as its just a clutch replacement (modified part - so as long as they fit the latest part you're good to go). It would probably cost alot though - circa 1,000+ inc labour (unless you get a local indy to fit it).

There are software updates that BMW also do, but to be honest I think it does nothing.

Driving about in a loan 61 plate 120d M sport with 2500 miles on the clock and it has this clutch judder too.

It does seem to be that there is too many serious flaws with BMW cars.

I think this is an on-going fault from even the previous models. Unfortunetely, is something that Diesel engines show up more due to torque e.t.c.

Would have thought BMW would have addressed the fault sooner as it was even apparent on some E46's. Still, It seems this revised clutch is 'doing the trick'.

I'm looking forward to having the revised clutch fitted to mine Hopefully they don't take too long rolling this out for E92's as I've been waiting for 3 1/2 months now

Quick Update : Judder has started again. Wouldn't be so bad but it's usually starting on a hill or reversing up a hill and of course, I start up a hill first thing every morning. Mine seems worse when it's cold.
So, back to the dealer in the morning for another assessment.

As an aside, since the software update, the stop/start has been very erratic. Will just not work even thought the conditions are right for it to do so.

Oh, and the dealer very kindly wiped all my Voice activation for the phone and buggered up the date settings and reversed my phone book entries last time.... You'd think in this day and age they could back all this up. They said they couldn't put them back on as it's my voice.... haven't come across the digital age then?.....

Will let you know what happens.

You know it and I know it Statler. It's a mechanical problem. No amount of software updates will solve it.

I have just started to get judder on my e90 after 17000 miles. However, I need to find another dealer before I start the ball rolling on this as my local dealers service department is worse than bad!
Car needs new rear pads soon so I will get it all done then.

Good thread though. Has been really helpful.

Is the judder apparent? Apparently it is! :-)

Dealer has 'exhausted' all options and has applied to BMW for a warranty replacement clutch.
Clutch won't be available in Belfast until the end of February so I'll have to live with it for a while.

They've replaced a sensor for the stop/start and fixed my seatbelt butler. It now hands the belt to me instead of snapping it back against the back window like a catapult!

Hopefully a good result in the end.

Well the E92 upgraded clutch is finally available to my Dealer. Car is booked in for 5th March.
I've a list of issues they've to look at before the warranty expires so it'll be with them for the better part of a week.

Will let you know how it goes.

Interested to hear what you think. Rich appears to be happy with it.

On another note Rich, did you keep the software update or did they revert to the original?

Will post back when I get it back in the next day or so.

Apparently there is a new software update that goes with this new clutch. I think they will do it as a matter of course.

IIRC there weren't any software updates for mine as it is so new. The dealers first attempt at a fix was just a replacement standard clutch. As bmwak says I think there is revised software with the new clutch. Not much more than a gut feeling though as the clutch response is so different it's difficult to determine what is mechanical and what isn't.

If that makes sense.

Thx guys, that's good to know.

So, I can expect to lose all my voice dialing and other settings again, wonderful!! You'd think they'd have a backup mechanism for user settings given the level of IT now in cars.

OK, so got my car back on Monday and here is my thoughts on the clutch after driving it for 250 miles. At the moment, I am simply concentrating on letting it run in for the next 1,000 miles by not exceeding more than 1,500rpm.

In this 250 mile run I must have done at least 20 up-hill starts (all on various gradients) and ‘touch wood’ so far no judder is apparent. On some pull offs there is a slight sensation of vibration when pulling off in first gear (the gear stick also vibrates at the same time) but I think this is more of a characteristic of the vehicle (not to be confused with the judder) and is usually a sign of not giving enough revs I think (Rich1068 or Gizze - do you experience this too?!)

When you do give it enough revs, it does pull away cleanly with no judder. Other than this, the clutch operation is very similar to the revised September 2011 clutch I had previously fitted. Overall, so far so good. No judder so I am one happy chappy

In terms of software, a software update was definetely applied. I cannot notice any apparent changes but it runs perfectly so I am happy.

Great news. After a little while you'll realise you've been driving for days and not given the clutch a thought. As it should be.

Not sure what you mean by vibration but in no time at all your driving style will change after months of trying to drive 'around' the clutch issue.

Next up, Mr Statler.

The vibration is apparent when you pull off without giving gas (causes the gear stick to vibrate - which was the way i used to pull off to minimise judder). I think you're right, when you give a little gas to pull off it pulls away cleanly.

I did also notice that when gear changes (especially, reverse, 2 and 4) were rock hard. Its starting to loosen up a bit now. Hopefully it will be sweet once its run in
Really pleased nevertheless

Oh Statler, I can confirm that as a result of the software update, no settings were lost whatsoever.

Even the temperature, DRLs, lock settings, radio stations, seat settings remained the same. I think it only updates rather than overwrite and fully reset it.
