H&R Sport/Koni yellow review

First let me say thanks to Mike-y. I decided to do this myself this time (my third setup). And Mike helped me a lot.

This is something that everyone should do themselves. Takes quite a bit of time the first time but I could do this MUCH faster next time.

I installed the front wrong the first time. Didn't put bump stops in and I put the bottom washer in the wrong spot. I was stupid, got in a hurry when I was finishing up and guessed where the washers went after they popped off. I should have printed out the diagram. But oh well, I had to re-do the front today and now it's all good.

I had H&R Sport/Koni FSD first. It rode the same as OEM ZSP I would say. It didn't handle better. Then I had coils and it rode absolutely horrible.

This is the setup I should have gone with in the first place like most on here say. It rides WAYYYYYYY better than stock. It handles much better. It is a little more stiff yet takes any bump MUCH better than stock.

It doesn't handle quite as good as the coils did. But I haven't changed the settings yet. I bought these used and he said he had it 80% rear. I want to stiffen up the front some more. But I need you guys to help me out with that.

For ANYONE who is hesitant about this setup, don't be. If you want a better ride than stock with better handling and don't care about the height adjustability, this is for you. I paid about $700 total. I bought both used.

I am finally completely satisfied with how my car rides. I wish it was just a hair lower but it's still almost flush and I'm sure it will settle a little more.

I know there's been plenty of reviews of this setup before. I just wanted to share my experience....

nice! so fixing the location of the washers raised the car back up? How much difference in height do you think it made?

and glad you got it squared away. The first time is always the hardest, but now you are a pro, heh.

The difference in height was about .3 I'd say. It was definately that washer. But I wouldn't advise doing that to get it lower. The shock fits in that hole perfectly. If you were to put that washer there, you'll hear metal sounds when hitting hard bumps. It sits exactly where it is supposed to now.

I didn't take good pics of it where it sat. Only the ones from the other thread i started about this. I'm going to take some pics of it today.

I had sonic tuning coils. I will say that it could have been install issues. It handled great. It was just too harsh of a ride for me.

Ive wondered how it all turned out for ya! Sounds good. Go ahead and stiffen up the fronts if they are still at full soft, you'll love it. I have mine at full stiff, and its not bad at all. Ive softened PSI a bit to compensate, but not having as much body movement was worth it.

Cool thanks. I was thinking that I should. I can't remember what the seller told me the fronts were on.

I don't have the knob. So what should I use?

I still want to get coils sometime in the future.

I don't know if it was quite .3. It's settled a little already today. But I had some serious rake, the tires were tucked too much and my VRS lip was scraping on small bumps on the highway. That sucked. I LOVE low..but that is too low.

I'm so paranoid after the coils nightmare I had and this. I'm nervous driving right now and I'm listening for every sound I can. But at least now I can fix it myself if I do hear anything. I will DEFINATELY do the coils myself if I ever get them...

if you can't find an adjustment knob, you can use needle nose pliers or something to turn the valve. you just have to pay attention to the orientation of the valve when you turn it.

I got it all the way stiff. It was almost all the way soft. It rides perfect I think. Feels close to the coils I had. handling wise.

Eh, coils are a waste of money imo, unless you REALLY need the adjustability and rates. I'm on yellows/eibach pro's and LOVE the setup. Tons of travel!

If you lost yours or it's broken, a bicycle spoke wrench will do and it will last forever!

Sorry to bump an old thread, but have a question. I'm currently running H&R Sports with oem sport shocks, and now looking to get koni yellows to run with my H&R springs. Can you adjust firmness after installed or do the koni's have to be removed (like in this video) to make adjustments? Confused. Thanks.
