Seattle / Western WA - Best backroads open now?

So I'm really dragging here -- more than a month with the new E92 335 and I haven't even had time to break it in yet!

I'm dying for some early mountain road experience -- does anyone have any suggestions for nice, technical, roads that are actually open this time of year?

Check out the dot info for mountain passes:

http://www.wsdot.wa.gov/traffic/trafficalerts/

Passes are here:

http://www.wsdot.wa.gov/traffic/passes/default.aspx

All passes seem open. Hwy 20 is a beautiful drive if you haven't done it.

Here's a link to a guy who organizes pretty damned fine group drives. He's still working on it so sometimes things don't go perfectly but it's a good time.

The-Winding-Road This is where these shots were taken.

April 29th "Spring Carbon Cleaning"

If you want to drive hard, but at a reasonable pace. Reasonable meaning what's acceptable for conditions, NOT what's posted on a sign by any means it's usually a pretty excellent drive and I highly recommend em'. Especially if you are looking to blow out the cobwebs or break in a new ride. :rocks:

Best part is you end up on little known or completely forgotten back roads, little LEO presence, and usually very little traffic.

The road from Redmond Ridge to Monroe through Duvall has a lot of nice curves. I'm thinking about making some short backroad trip myself this weekend. The weather rocks this week! (yeah, here it happens rarely... )

I live about 5 minutes from Duvall and there are a lot of nice little drives in the area. Paradise lake road is another good short stretch that is fun to drive. Also, you can go from Monroe to the Mountain loop highway through backroads (i.e not via 2 or 9) and that's usually pretty deserted and windy.

I think I'm going out exploring Saturday. My new roads reservoir is starting run a little low. My advice, keep taking the smaller roads until you get to the end, then turn around and repeat. You're bound to find some really good stuff. But yeah, you definitely need to escape the urban sprawl.

I ended up hitting US-101 this morning -- it was a truly entertaining drive, but I'm down for a meet up later in June.

Count me in on a group drive (unless it's on the wife's birthday weekend, that is).
