For those of you with pets...

...make sure when you get home tonight you give them plenty of love and continue to cherish every moment you have with them;

My Doberman, Dylan, who has been fit and healthy for the entire 5 and a half years of his life started having breathing problems on Sunday night.

I took him to the vets at 2am Monday morning to be told that he has developed Dilated Cardiomyopathy and has, if we're lucky, just weeks left to live.

To say the wife and I are in pieces is an understatement. For this to happen so quickly and totally out of the blue is so unfair - we have had no time to come to terms with this, and just keep bursting into tears.

I am about to loose my best friend and am totally helpless to do anything about it.

Don't take the animals that give you unconditional devotion and love for granted, because they can be snatched away so prematurely.

Dreadful news Si, it's not until you lose a pet you realise what an integral part of your life they have become.

You have both my sympathy and empathy, been there, so know how you and the wife feel.

Omg Si, mate I feel your pain so much. I'm upset for you. I know how it feels.

I know Dylans final days will be filled with happiness & love.

Just be as Strong as you can be. You won't want him sensing how distraught you are.

That is really dreadful news. I went throught it last March when our 5 year old Bernese Mountain Dog died. I have never cried so much in my life. It's going to be really tough but you are just going to have to be strong.

My thoughts are with you.

Really, really sorry and totally feel for you. We lost one of our beloved family cats to a tumour very unexpectedly and very quickly just the other week. We had had him for 12 years and had got him as a kitten from the RSPCA. Still feel his loss and the house seems incomplete somehow. Thinking of you and your family.

Can't really say any more than has already been said-life is utter shite sometimes.
I look at my Vizsla who is 12 and can't imagine a house without him,but it's coming.
No comfort, but a good life spent is something to hold onto...

Mate, this is so sad to hear. I posted on here a few weeks ago about our new Doberman puppy (you were quick to reply with pics of your fella). I really feel for you and hope you find the strength to get through the next few weeks. Once the pain has started to ease (which it will in time) get a new Dober puppy mate. We are loving our new girl and they are a superb breed.

You have had 5 wonderful years with him, cherish those memories.

Take care, Michael

Thanks to everyone for their kind messages, PM's and texts etc
I've been working from home all week to spend plenty of time with the old boy, which we have both really enjoyed - I'm making every minute with him count now.
That's again,

Si
