Background noise when connecting iPhone 4S
I searched the forums, but it looks like no one else has this problem. I just upgraded from iPhone 3G to iPhone 4S and use an auxiliary cable to play my music on my 08 335 coupe.
This used to work well with the 3G, but now with 4S, whenever I launch iTunes, I hear this constant hissing noise in the background. It affects the sound quality. I tried changing the EQ settings on the car and the phone but it had no impact. Also played around with different volume combinations, but the background noise is always there. I am wondering if anyone has faced this problem and if there is a cable or a setting that will solve this. |

So, you are using the aux input in the center console with a 6fl? Or you are using something else? Like headphone to headphone.
By iTunes, you mean "music" app right? EDIT: lower the volume output from the headphone jack to 50, set aux input volume to 50 and turn on soundcheck on the phone and volume limit. Last edited by cole92; 11-09-2011 at 03:26 PM. |

Will try the sound check and the volume suggestions. Unfortunately, I don't have the aux input volume control. Thanks for your input. |

OP, in my case I am using a DOCK connector to Aux cable, thus no noise from the headphone jack amp....but I still had noise on my iPad. I'll have to try it in my rental car tomorrow with both phone and pad.

What DOCK connector are you using? Did you integrate the dock connector with the center console?

You guys can also try an inline noise filter. Just plug it in between your AUX cable and the AUX port.

I used to have a 3gs that I used with an aux cable that worked fine. My new 4s has a ton of noise. Oddly enough, my fiancés 4s is silent. Have played with all settings and cannot figure it out.

same problem here. Seems to be affecting lots of people. There's a thread on the apple boards about it:

^Read through that article before searching through the forums. The noise is unbearable. Hopefully there will be a stable fix for it soon.

Dude... same exact problem here. Using my old 3g and cable... no issue. Using my Iphone 4, I get that damn hiss. Tried switching aux cords of all sizes but no success.
I was even able to get a new iphone from apple for the problem. Same issue with the new iphone 4. I've been wanting to get a nano... but i'm scared the problem will be there. Let us know if anybody finds a fix. |

Hissing Noise
Just got my iPhone 4s today, same problem. Found this in a separate forum.
Once connected directly to the Aux, turn your iPhone volume all the way up, turn off 'Volume Limit' from 'Music' under 'Settings' Greatly reduces the hissing sound. Still slightly there, but much better. This is really disappointing since I was hoping to get rid of my iPod touch and just use the iPhone for my music. |
