I think Terry's car was the only 335i to touch 105, but again he had the least curb weight, least rotational mass weight, exhaust mod, and DR's and I think he was also the only one on race gas (correct me if I'm wrong on the race gas Terry).
You forgot to mention that I was also the best looking.

I was on ~93 octane, but on the negative side had to unplug the battery before that run (so no learn time on the car). Not sure that either matters, at 6400' no one is going to knock.

On Warren's car, I think that's about what a 335 should go. Keep in mind its going to add ~1-2psi to make up for the altitude, and he cut some nice 2.0 60' times. That's a tenth and a half faster in the first 60' than me with drag radials, plus I suspect he's a light guy himself. What really astonished me was his 60' time, I should have let him drive my car!

Yes, my terminal speeds weren't all that great. But the car ran some pretty quick times considering how limited it was on the top end. I think it has some really good low/mid range punch. Interestingly, near the end of the afternoon, I started having traction problems, and my ETs were pretty bad. Yet my terminal speeds were often above 102mph. Also, since I made 21 runs, I was down to my last 9 miles on the range reading. So maybe the low fuel was affecting my runs somewhat. Down at sea level, that same car will definitely run 105mph. I trust my G-tech pretty much because of its consistancy. So at sea level, and 49F weather, this is a typical graph. Now remember, when I compared the track times with my Gtech, they were so close it was uncanny. Just look at the graph, and you can see how consitant my runs were. But nothing surprising here, as some magazines have run 105mph terminal speeds anyways. And conditions don't get much better than they do down here at sea level, cold temps.(The graph says M3, but they are from the 335i as you can see by the almost seamless shifts, compared to the jagged lines the SMG produces.) It almost seemed like earlier in the day I started with a limited slip diff, but then lost it later in the day. I definitely seemed to hook up better with the RFTs when it was cooler. But either way, it was nice meeting up with all of you,(Driver 72, Brusso, MVenom, etc. Really nice people. I remember seeing some of you when I was up at Famosa also. Its good to hang out with car enthusiasts sometimes. I just love cars, and technical things. I have to get my Grand National up and running one of these days. I used to drive around with the computer and gauges hooked up to the thing, analyzing everthing as I drove..I also talked to Jeff of Eurobahn at the track, and Shiv at Bimmerfest...both seemed like respectable people. I also had one of the quickest times for a stock M3 at Famosa with a 13.554@104.14mph. Yet at LACR, my 06 SMG M3 only managed a 14.0 @ 100.1mph. Thats why I brought the 335i this time. Yet at sea level, cold temps, the M3 is the faster of the two, regularly trapping at 106-107mph. The 335i hasn't hit 106mph yet. Although the ETs are a driver's race. And even at the same track, just a few hrs later, the times can change drastically. So not only do different tracks present incomparable results, but even runs at different times of the day, different track conditions, can change your times by a half second or more.

Hey (hotrod182) Just wanted to say ... It was nice meeting you Sunday. I wish we would have been able to compare cars on the ride up . At the track you kicked my ass. The last run we made was the closest. I had to use burnout mode to get my car to launch . The turbo tuner car was only able to pull one car on the way up when we compared. The fact that 335's have a boost increase to compensate for alt. is awsome .... and explaines some things ... lol...
hope to see you all at the next event.

I'm not talking about "Hotrod's" stock 335I. I'm talking about "Socal335I" his name is Warren correct? He has the procede, BOV, and exhaust, Terry hit 105 as well with his car.

Drew IIRC i trapped 105 mph bone stock with like a 2.5 60ft the first time we went to fontana when i got my 335. i think it was like 2.5 60ft and was a 13.7 or 13.8 at 104-105mph.

i dont have the time slips but your memory is probably better than mine right now (pills from surger)

That's cool that I saw you on the freeway. I was thinking hmm I wonder if he is on E90Post... Fancy that, you are!

As for doing anything to my car... don't worry that is already in the works.

Merritt.... if anyone can come up with an upgrade for the turbo's on the 335 I know your company can. I am very familiar with them from back in the days when I was in the honda / acura crowd. I can't believe it's been 12 years...
What do you have in the works....

Does anyone over there still remember Orly and his crx ????

My name is Oren not Warren. I did hit 105 but on the 13.3 run i hit 102.9 but later in the day i was getting 13.4 to 13.6's with 105 trap speeds with 2.3 to 2.4 60's.

I wish I was there. I have a TT and would be courious to see what times I could have gotten.

It doesn't seem like the TT car did too bad vs the Procede cars, considering that some of the Procede guys that ran 13.4 - 14.5 also had other mods like exhaust, DR's etc...

Sounds like you guys had a great time and some awesome runs, all conditions considered. The times are very impressive after all the talk about the handicap of this track. Try this link if you want resolution, or more "data" for your debate

Later in the day, my ETs went up, and so did the trap speeds, and less traction too. You would almost think we were making more horsepower! But it was warmer by about 10 degrees, so that doesn't make sense. But my best times by far were my first 4 runs. And I ran them all in a row, with absolutely no cool down. Maybe thats why my trap speeds didn't go up then. Well actually, I really never had much cool down between most of my 21 runs.

I used to go to turbonetics with the Grand National crowd. They used to be pretty close to here...in Moorpark..I don't know if they moved though. I remember the guy showing me some burned up turbine wheels from a RX7, and he was telling me that the rotary engines are like blow torches. One of the workers had a Yellow 300ZX with a built up engine. I saw his engine on a stand in his garage. He used to cruise around with his lap top connected to it, and whenever I would see him in my Grand National, I would always try and get him to race me. In all my studies in turbocharging systems, its amazing the temperature delta that can be achieved with a good intercooler. The temperature increases that come at the pressure differentials are amazing. Every psi increase has an attendant temp increase, sometimes like 10 degrees? (Merritt can chime in on that) So a good intercooler at higher boost levels may be very beneficial.

That's true dude, you should be modeling.

I don't think it was so much just the 60' times, his car was trapping 1-1.5 mph faster than the other stock car (granted the other stock car was rolling on 20" wheels and the guy was at least 250 lbs and was pretty new to drag racing).
But, still HotRod was trapping close to what the Turbo Tuner cars were (he was only about 1 mph slower in his heads up race with one).

As for his 60' times, he wasn't doing anything special, just putting it in DS mode power braking it a bit and going and letting the car shift on it's own.
HotRod was driving great for sure (getting out of the hole nicely) but for his car to pull as well as it's doing, it surely is making a bit more power than the "average" 335i sedan.

I'll admit, I did forget about the overboost function of the stock car at elevation.
But it doesn't explain why when a few weeks ago when a couple of us were there, the stock car was trapping 100-101, Kujo with his catback exhaust was trapping at 102-104, and the PROcede (mine includede) cars were trapping 106-107.

No, none of the PROcede guys had DR's

The two PROcede cars had the biggest guys there running (both over 230 lbs) and one was bone stock otherwise but also had 1/2 tank of gas.
That was Jon, he ran a 13.398
The other was SoCal335i, he has an exhaust, and was on 19" aftermarket rims, with big 275 tires. His tires weren't great and the fact he had 275 tires surely didn't help his trap speeds as they are too tall.

I think he was also a manual trans, which should help trap a bit. All in all we need another race day. Someone set a date!!!

No, I remember that day Brotha, I trapped the highest 103, you and Sher trapped 99 - 101 and Jackson's uber S4 only trapped 113, lol, not a good day, the traps were about 3-4MPH slower than the old track. Niether of you got traction though.

Jackson went back a few weeks ago and said it seems that all the cars are now running closer to the times of the old Fontana, he trapped 118, go figure.

Sactown Charlie, it's our only hope to return to the glory days.
