Those gears your recommended are generally used in conjunction with turbos or superchargers. A NA mustang loves steep gearing. When he throws on the whipped, he may want to look into the 3.55's.

Put it this way, you'll be shifting into 5th in the quarter mile. When you start adding power the 3.73 gears will have the same problem as other cars with big power over stock, which is the gearing isn't appropriate for the power.
If the OP has plans for big power, he should have gotten the 3.31 or 3.55 to begin with. Then again, swapping the rear shouldn't be terribly expensive IMO. I bet the 5.0 forum guys will play musical rears like we do with tunes ![]()

As far as the gears go guys i,ve been doing this for a while. I,m 54 and have had numerous american muscle cars, not just evo,s and bmw,s.The 373 is a perfect gear with a 6 spd for n/a or forced induction.I,ve also heard from a lot of friends the , I cant believe your going from BMW to FORD, LOL.The mustang is one helluva performance car for the money. You cant compare it to my 335 or any other BMW or the like as they are completly differnt animals. And i have a space grey acs roof spoiler and a sg m3 rear lip left for sale from my 335. BTW i got 26 on the trade in for the 335,and the mustang with the options i have came to 38k.Most automotive people are calling this car the american M3 as it does everything according to the numbers as good or better than a stock M3. Dont flame me on this, its what i have read and seen on comparison tests.I never got on an M3 so i dont know. In fact i only have 300 miles on the gt and havnt gotten on it yet either.Still love this forum so i,ll be checking in from time to time and let you know if i made the right choice .

Thanks , i heard all about the few trans problems but they were mainly in the 2011 models along with some clunky shifting.Maybe because mine is brand new that its tight as a drum and very smooth shifting but time will tell.I plan on putting in a hurst billet shifter along with a beefier shift bracket anyway.

http://www.m3post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=585705 So if the Boss 302 loses, but GT is more comparable, is the Boss' performance and price overstated?

It's hard to not like the new 5.0. Decent styling, amazing stock performance, an aftermarket selection that makes the BMW one look like a joke (I'm talking quality too) and cheap. At my old company we bought a stripper 6sp with 1 option - 373 gears for 29k BRAND NEW. Ran 12s stock. With suspension and bolt on performance mods it embarrassed a lot of cars on the road course. Sounds incredible too.
I thought about buying one, but I'm holding out for an E90 M3. As much as I hate to admit it, I really do prefer a sedan as a daily and a supercharged E90 M3 is the perfect car for me.
