BMW 335i vs. Audi S4

I know...everyone is tired of seeing the "BMW vs. Audi" debate. Please don't flame me, but I actually own both of these cars, and I'm very much into tracking and autox'ing. I did my own comparison couple years ago on the AutoClub Speedway here in Fontana, CA, but I didn't have video then. Late last year, I purchase an HD camera so I have been taping whenever I'm at the track. Well, I took the E92 to Streets of Willow (running clockwise) back in March this year, and I finally took the S4 to the same track running the same direction last weekend. So I thought I put together the quickest laps of both into one side-by-side video. Hope you enjoy the video.

Audi has better brake pads :P

Good video. Your lines on the first half of the course need a little perfecting, such as opening up a little more, but the back half looks great. Interesting comparison but brake pads make alllllllllll the difference. I would never take stock brakes on a track, haha.

Cool video. If you don't mind me asking, why get both a S4 and a 335? Both are great cars, but pretty damn similar.

Before my twin girls,
Audi = his
BMW = hers

After my twin girls,

How is the driving feel in terms of AWD systems comparing the S4 vs Xi?

I had thought about getting an S4 but the RWD is really what made me decide on the 335i. Just curious to see from someone who owns both BMW AWD and Audi.

Nice videos, i didn't expect the time diff to be that big. But since both cars are stock, the S4 has the edge in power, but the understeer is still why i would stick with the BMW.

You have two of the better cars in the market though!

My E92 is NOT the xi. I have the RWD E92, so I can't compare the two AWD systems.

Thanks.

I know this is the BMW forum, so most people here tend to be more biased towards the BMW. But I'm sorry to say that the Audi has been 3 for 3 so far. What that means is that I've taken both cars to 3 different tracks, and the Audi was faster in all 3. My first comparison was back in 2009 when both cars were 100% stock (stock tires and stock brakes), and I took them both to the AutoClub Speedway the same day. Here's the thread about that comparison, http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=322415.

The second time was at SOW running CCW. Audi was in the 1:27.9, while the BMW was in the 1:32. However it was much warmer when I took the BMW out, and I was keeping my eyes on the oil temp more often. I'll try to run SOW CCW again with the BMW in cooler weather because I think I can get down to 1:30 or maybe even 1:29 now that it's on square AD08 255/35 on OEM 18x8.5 rims, and Carbotech XP12/10 pads (same tires and pads as in the Audi).

Anyway, I enjoy tracking both cars. Very different handling characteristics. Oh...the BMW actually understeers more than the Audi.

Yes, IMO, the rear diff is a "must have" option.

If you want to talk understeer, how about your 335xi? See Below.

fwiw - my stock B8 A4 feels quicker around the track than my e90 325. purely seat of the pants feel though.

And the beeping sound you guys hear on the video is the "speed warning" on the Audi LOL
