Speedo's over read also. You should see it off the clock (160) quite easily.

I've had my SE over 130mph on a private runway though.. so the SE's being limited to 130 thing can't be true can it?

In the US they are (maybe elsewhere too).

Only Sport / M sport gets the raised 155 limiter over there.

So they are....

http://www.bmwusa.com/Standard/Conte...fications.aspx

...maybe the yanks think the standard car is unsafe on its soft suspension above 210kmh

The saloon 335i and 335d are M Sport only in the UK now, though coupes still get everthing in all flavours - even the 330i.

These US cars may come standard with all-season tyres with a lower speed rating. This could explain a lower speed governor. However, this definitely does not apply to UK models.

Its the other way... summer tires come stadard on US spec cars but A/S tires are a no cost option.

Option #840 has nothing to do with which tires you get/select. IF a car has option #840 it is limited to 250 kph. And cars with out option #840 are limited to 210 kph. Decode your VIN and see if you guys have #840 or not.

155mph in the UK as far as I know. Sort of gentleman's agreement which came about around the time the Lotus Carlton was unveiled and the Scum press nearly had an embolism.

Is the optin 840 a EU or German thing? Anything above 70mph on UK roads is academic, can't see the justification for BMW UK offering and option which allows us to break the speed limit by a larger margin..

BMW M-sport option code 840 top speed limiter…

http://www.1addicts.com/forums/showt...=top+speed+840

When ordering a new 2010 135i there are TWO sport options. (I think this was also the way it was for all model years: '08-'11's)

#1). ZMP option code: $1,300 (Miltary Sales price) (can not be ordered with ZSP!) which includes

2MR 18" double spoke wheels #261M
337 M-sport pack, door strips in M, shifter & hand brake all M
481 Sport seats
710 M-sport steering wheel
760 Shadowline trim
775 Anthracite headliner (black)
840 Increased top speed limiter

the "other" sport option is this one: ZSP

#2). ZSP Sport option $1,100 (mil price)

481 Sport seats
710 M-sport steering wheel
760 Shadowline trim
840 Increased top speed limiter

So... for a measly $200 you get the nice Anthracite headliner, M-double spoke wheels (same size as standard car though), M door sills and shifter/brake. I went with the ZMP on my car. I order my car thru Military Sales program. I think the US options were a $200 each more. ? I think the ZMP option is more rare from what I have seen over here. I had to special order my car the way I wanted it.

Good Luck,

PS: IF you do not order the M-sport or sport options (and hence option #840) your car is limited to 210 kph (135mph). IF you HAVE option #840 your car is also limited but to 250 kph (155mph)!
Hope this help you out.

Ok, I see you are quoting in USD and are in the US military stationed in Germany.

In that case when you buy a car, even in Germany, it will be a US spec car - with a 210km/h speed limiter on non- sport models.

But this does NOT apply to Euro spec SE cars (or Australian for that matter). SE models of Euro spec cars have a 250km/h limiter.

US spec for most Euro manufacturers is completely different to what we have for Euro/Rest of the World cars. Period.

Just because you don't leave the UK - please don't cripple those of us who do (or like track/strip work)

Re the UK limiters, mine is oem at 250kph and it is a 2006 SE.

Do you really never drive over 70mph?

And re the option (#840 is a US only thing BTW), as m1bjr says, the higher limiters of 155 (or above) would be a perfectly legitimate option for those that drive abroad or do track days etc.

As a matter of interest I note that your speedos and oil temp gauges indicate MPH and deg F, as opposed to KPH and deg C, yet you're in Germany - are the cars intended for export to the US?

I think the 5% factor is a BMW constant - it was so in my E92 and likewise in my current F10.
I'd appreciate your thoughts on the Pogo Alert - does it detect mobile and laser speed traps?

Yes.

My car is a US spec car bought thru MCS(Military Car Sales). BMW will pay to ship it to the states(for free) when ever I decide to move back to the states.

Btw... German spec 135i's are also limited to 250 kph. And with a German tune (and no limiter) most will do around 285 to 295 kph. I have seen as much as 280 kph with my GPS(not on the speedo). But there was still more to be had. I just ran into too much traffic on the autobahn. I think UK car are no different. Its just that you guys can not explore those high speeds - legally as we can here in Germany.
