How much boot is the procede running?

Ok, I'm starting to get alittle concerned about people talking about all these high boost numbers. First what are we talking about.. Are these boost spikes? What gear are these boost numbers accruing? I am no expert on the engine but I got to tell you, if the car is truly running boot in the 13 - 14 psi range I'm a little disappointed. It was always said the car ran 8.7 psi to 11.6 psi stock. 8.7 psi under normal conditions and higher in certain situations. I thought the Procede basically told the car the conditions required the car to run closer to the 11.6 psi mark.

The PROcede is running 13-14 psi, without any boost spikes, per Shiv. Stock is 8.5 psi. You don't get 50+ whp and 70+ wtq without raising the boost significantly.

Wasn't it said that it increased boost by only 2 psi? I'll bet with that much boost, the turbos life will be cut in half!

It won't cut the turbos' life in half. Check the Bathurst race results as one example. 12 hours of running boost from a Procede and neither car had turbo issues. I am no expert, but common sense tells me if the boost was problematic for the turbos, we would already know it by that race plus the others running Procede with no issues. By the way, f/u Terry.

At what RPM?

Making 4 PSI more at 3k revs takes less stress on the snails than 2 PSI more at 6k revs.

Same to you big guy. We won't know about the turbo life until these cars hit 50-60k miles, but I'm not going to lose any sleep oevr it.

while i agree its not going to cut the turbo lifespan in half, i disagree that that race was proof of that, a 12 hour endurance race is hardly a measuring tape for whether the turbos will last 100k miles or not

I'm guessing with a 60% increase in boost, turbos that would normally go 90k to possibly 100k miles would fail at 50k to 60k.. I'm also thinking since there hasn't been any reported turbo failures, that we are within the OK range.. Was I the only one the thought the procede only was boosting 11 - 12 PSI?

It's been sort of a poorly covered topic I think, most people don't really know how much boost they are making. I wish these cars came with gauges stock.

You need to stop guessing. Unless we find that 13-14psi is outside of the tolerance range for the 335i turbos, the life of your turbo will not dramatically decrease.

Most manufacturers restrict PSI for engine longitivy and fuel consumption considerations...

What you should maybe worry a little more is the additional engine/fuel component stress...

Does OBD-2 report boost? I know the sampling rate is slow on them, but should still refresh enough to give a decent read...

Most generic OBDII software will reading manifold absolute pressure as one of the variables. It will be an absolute measurement in inHg but that can easily be converted to boost/vacuum in PSI.

Cool I don't think anyone knows what is safe on these cars.

Ask Shiv, or someone else with real tuning expirience what these things can handle, but even then I would guess its just a ballpack educated guess. Bottomline if you are uncomfortable and don't want to spend $$$ when or if it blows on you, don't do it. No one really knows what the true torelances are, and we wont know until someone's car goes ka-boom! And you can be assured some poor soul is going to findout at some point. Then we will all have a better idea.
