Firewall part for strut tower install

I got an M3 strut tower bar that I want to install on my 2012 e92 335is.

I remember running across a thread (which I can't seem to locate) where someone was installing an M3 strut bar but the piece that is attached at the firewall where the mounting point is was one solid piece and the 2 rubber pieces that you have to remove to slide in the M3 mount and then put back on were not removable.

I think my piece may be the same.

Can anyone verify what year BMW started putting in the solid piece?

Also, can someone direct me to the part that has the removable rubber pieces on RealOEM? I'm having trouble finding it.

Thanks!

Finally found it on RealOEM.

It looks like I may have been mistaken. It shows the rubber parts (#23 & #24) as being separate from the heater closing panel (#13) for my vehicle.

They are separate...they simply pop out.

I knew they were separate but I swear I saw a post from someone that was doing the M3 strut tower bar install and they ran into the issue of it all being one piece.

And I thought someone responded and said they were like that on newer models.

Maybe I dreamed the whole thing!

Took everything apart and low and behold! It's one piece and the rubber inserts are not removable.

Guess I wasn't dreaming.

What have you done/tried to try to remove them?

Nothing. I think I'm just going to buy the parts and replace mine. They are fairly cheap.

Plastic and rubber. Definitely they are not glued from factory. Or fused/molded together. With little effort you can separate them.

The same problem on my 2011 335xi.

I simply cut the rubber and melt it together with a soldering iron after install.
That's done in a few minutes.
