Guys I own a 2007 335d as well, the trade value as you know is well below the price points that you are both at. While we all want more for our cars and feel they are worth more the guides tend to rule what people will pay.

Not wanting to annoy either of you but pricing at 4 or 5 k above trade is optimistic and hence you have no calls. In the case of the OP's car a BMW dealer will be selling a fully prepared AUC car with warranty for less. This also gives customers access to finance, trade in and a reassurance of somewhere to go back to if they have issues.

I was in the same position recently and after a poor trade in offer I just decided to keep my car for now.

Bottom line, its like houses at the moment, only bargains and those priced very realistically find new homes.

I think that you will be keeping it. :-( the Market for 335d is on it's ass and has been for a while. I struggled to sell my tourer for less last year!!!!

Agree, at 17500 I think its yours.

Can see why the 335i struggles to sell as its perceived to be very thirsty but a bit strange that the 335d is tarred with the same brush. They are reasonably economical with great performance, perhaps when people realise they are a bargain performance bargain the demand will rise a bit but anyone asking more than BMW dealer money is wasting their time advertising unless they have exactly the car that someone is searching for and is willing to pay over the odds for.

tbh you wont find a car on a dealers forecourt bmw or not in the same condition, i for one would rather buy a car from someone who i can assess, eg when he starts the car from cold does he blast down the road or give it 5 miles to warm up, is he a bit of a lad, a foot to the floor man or someone who genuinely looks after his possessions, when you buy off the forecourt you have no idea how the car has been treated and warranty or not i wouldnt want to buy a car thats been thrashed, tracked or mapped, out of interest my dealer offered 15000 for mine as a straight buy.

Agree Acer about the owner being important but lack of other functions like finance and trade ins often kill a private sale.

TBH I would break their arm for the 15k.

Price is the issue.

I'm having no luck with a 525/530d and have begun looking at other options. ALL diesels being sold privately are being listed well over book values and (in my opinion) what is a fair price.

This (being an SE) looks like about 15k to me, it's a stunning car with nice spec, but it's also fairly old now and whilst by no means high mileage, it's not low for a car of that age either.

Sorry mate and very good luck to you, but that's my honest opinion as a current buyer.

Matt

I think I have been saying price is the issue from the start, great car in lovely condition, but it has a market value.

im sure you, like me, think that what you are asking is not a lot of money for a very nice well cared for car, i have a new car with 55 miles on it and still have the 07 so i really dont want 2 cars but im reluctant to sell the 07 at such a low price. i recently bought an 07 330i with 8000 miles on it 1 owner and literally like it had just come out of the showroom, i paid 20,000 for it which was good money but its a lovely car, it cost new 45000 so the seller lost 25000 in 4 years. the way i see it is that i can only lose 20000 even if i throw it away in 5 years time its still cheaper than a new car. the same goes for my 07 335d and im sure the OP's, for 17000 it will give many years of motoring. i still maintain its better to pay a bit over the odds for a genuine car than one thats been batted around. i think the problem at the moment is that no one has any confidence in the economy and its reflected in car sales.
