Send Google Maps to your BMW nav!

BMW & Google join hands (in Germany for now)

I am not an expert in navigations at all, but would you need this feature if you have a good navigation to begin with?

I wish they start redesigning the stupid iDrive system....freagin turn knob is stupid and non-intuitive. The overall system have potentials, but man....user interaction is retarded.... Another thing need improving is their voice recognition, retarded as well... I tested the Acura Nav and the bimmer and the Acura totally blows away the iDrive,..but functionality wise, the iDrive got more room for improv.

Seems to me that the nav has no brains in the way it calculates routes. Every time I drive through NYC coming from LI it wants me to take the holland tunnel, WTF. Its easier to go cross town to the lincoln.

Good thing I know better, some poor fool not used to NYC would be detoured for 40+ minutes driving through the city.

I wish they had a waypoint system. So I could tell the nav to go through certains POI's before the final destination. Sort of like linking routes.

Holland tunnel from Long Island to NYC? what are you smoking, did you mean mid-town tunnel? Holland connects to NJ kid. Also you can select route to avoid tolls and it'll put you accross one of the free bridges.

I think nyc3r meant driving *through* manhattan. Like, heading toward NJ starting from Long Island?

I agree about the waypoint system.

Having said that, do the same route in Google Maps and see what happens.

BMW uses Navteq for their map data which is also what Google uses. I don't think it is a BMW issue, rather it is Navteq's routing.

This is from my experience with Garmin units and my iDrive, both of which use Navteq and both of which make the same mistake at a certain intersection near my place of work.
