Battery Safety Terminal exploded & disconnect the starter cable

This happen to me last week. The car had to be towed. I remember reading a thread posted by rob944s2 see the link http://www.e90post.com/forums/showth...=battery+cover

rob944s2 did not have any picture at the time. These are pictures from my car battery compartment. They replaced with a new battery positive cable and distribution box because the BST has blown and melted the power box. They also replaced the cover compartment that hold the tools.

Thatīs the little explosive charge that is there to disconnect your battery in case of an accident. it worked well and the slight sorching of the cover is to be expected and not critical.

Only thing is: Itīs shouldnīt have discharged if there was no accident....

Yep, this is exactly what happened to me. Funny, I didn't know we had an explosive charge on the battery, I just figured it melted. Interesting!

No it couldnīt. Not from the explosive battery terminal. The explosive charge is there on purpose and itīs specifically there to prevent the car from catching fire in an accident by disconneting the battery through itīs discharge. The explosive itself is too small and too well contained to start a fire itself.
