Royal Purple 5w30 vs 5w40?

So I have done a search and have read about using different oils. I know Royal Purple is not LL-01 or LL-04 approved. But I have been using 5w40 in my s4 for years and had no problems. I was just wondering can I use 5w40 instead of 5w30. I live in Socal and as everyone knows it can get really hot here so I wanted to use a thicker oil for the spirited driving I do when its 100
+ here. TIA

I thought RP had a LL rating oil.

Anyways, if you plan on changing your engine oil every 7500 miles then I'd use the RP 5w-30. Just monitor your oil level on the first 3000 miles.

I use ELF Solaris LSX 5w-30 which is LL-04.

Call me old fashion I change my oil every 3k miles and I change right after break-in. Just a routine I do on all cars that I buy new.

So even though it can be 100+ everyday and my spirited driving is like I was on the Nurnbergring, 5w30 still a good choice?

For our "break in" oil change i did some research about "other than BMW" oils. not allot out there that is LL-04 compliant. 0w-30 by Castrol Syntec is LL-01 and that is what is used in 330i engines. dont really see to much differance other than additive levels from -01 to -04. -04 has less additives.

I read that LL-04 is meant for turbo diesel engines in Europe but can be used on gas engines as well.

Can onlly find LL01 in my area - either castrol 0w-30, or mobil 0w-40. The place I found the castrol (autozone) won't be carrying it anymore so I am doen to mobil 0w-40 in my area.

LL-04 Stands for Long Life 2004. Just a standard to determine the life of oil in your car.

It is said that even the BMW approved Castrol oil 5w-30 thats sold at the dealer isn't even LL-01 because it's not even mentioned on the bottle!

Not at my walmart in the United States. Thanks for the suggestion though, it was worth going to look for it. I can olny find Mobil 1 0w-40 in my area which is also LL01 rated.

a liitle off topic, but i just did an oil change yesterday, that B.S. that they tell me at the stealership that these cars can go for 15,000miles with no oil change..no way, i looked at the oil that i drained and compared to the new, that oil was black and thik, comparing to liquid yellowish....and that was after 5,000miles...also a big diffrence in driving, the engine feels so smooth under heavy accelaration and normal driving big diffrence.....i used mobil1 high performance full synthetic 5w30 from walmart good shit
