New from Alpine: PXA-H800

New processor from Alpine: PXA-H800

http://www.crutchfield.com/p_500PXAH...00.html?tp=116

Might be able to give the JBL MS-8 a run for its money?

Early adopters have had some serious issues with the firmware on the unit. Apparently there is a firmware update to solve it, but it should have shipped fully functioning.

It will be interesting to see what it looks like when it officially hits the market in the states. People have been using it successfully overseas and it certainly seems like an upgrade over the H700/H701

Got one installed in my e90, yet to complete a final tune as the speakers are being run in but my initial impression is its an awesome processor.

I'll be sure to give some detailed feedback soon.

Size!

I think one of the key features of this unit, what makes it unique to the MS-8 and puts it into its own market is its size, its width is 50% less than the MS-8, and itís also nearly 1" shallower. This means the unit can now fit in in one of the two trunk spaces where telematics control units go (if you have that space and want it to go there). So you can now have something like a HD600/4 on the left and on the right the PXA-H800 with no modifications to the trunk lid and it will sit flush, as far as I can see.

Maybe I'm missing something here but isn't it lacking the whole amp thing that the MS-8 does have? I realize if you put this with a /6 or something it should be great but the price is WHOA...

Most people that would spend that much on a processor would use an amp anyways.

Pic of the Alpine H800 Processor location in my E90 (prior to wiring). Fits great under the rear floor.

The H800 only outputs low level as described in the link above.

What is the advantage of running this instead of a clean sweep?

I think it allows you to custom tailor you sound

cleansweep only flattens the output of the Head Unit.
MS-8 flattens and adjusts to the location of the listener
plus 8 channels.
and has all kinds of crossover and delay adjustment possibilitys.
But the low output of the built in amps don't add up .
Also the ms-8 only allows you the results of the calibration no
tweeking.
Price seems kind of high on the Alpine though.

I have never heard these so maybe I shouldn't be commenting.

- MS-8 has a total of 288W max @ 4ohms/480W max @ 2ohm, so low output is not.
- there are bass, treble, mid adjustments and a 31-band EQ available after calibration
- give 3-4 months after introduction for the H800 to be less than $400 in the street; after a year it will be considerably less, IMO.

This thing REQUIRES the C800 control unit ($249) so don't forget about that!

I think alpine fell short with this one, way short considering the delay. some nice features I wish the Ms-8 had but not much of a comparison overall.

It does seem to be giving the MS-8 a run for its money. The MS-8 was nearly 3 years late (that is, is shipped almost three years after its "introduction") and the H800 is like 18 months late in the US.

Oh, Technic, like you paid retail for your MS-8
