No that's perfect. Just remove the charcoal filter if you have one... I don't think you do as it may be a euro model.

I successfully read the ECU without hooking my 2006 E90 325i to a battery charger, can I be reasonably assured that I can write to the ECU without having to hook it up?

Downloaded the info from the ECU to the Simon tool takes twice as long as uploading the revised ECU file from the Simon tool to the car's computer.

Hi Andrew,

does the "offroad" tune just turn the CEL light off or does it also provide emissions readiness and elimination of the code on the computer?

We turn off the code itself so it should work. We have have done it on a couple already but I haven't heard back from them.

The AA "offroad" tune turns off the CEL light. It does not turn the o2 sensors to set "ready" for emissions purposes. Thus when you go for the test it will show "cat not ready"

You have to check your local emission laws to see if you can pass with the "cat not ready" or if just having the CEL light off is good enough.

Most emission tests will test multiple systems & sensors, so for example if you pass 7 out of 8 you may still pass even if the cat is not ready. Or if the cat fails then maybe it's an auto fail. You have to check how many you can "miss or fail" and still pass.

I cannot comment on Evolve.

Thanks. I will have to check local rules. Evolve has been verified by thestig in the 1 series forum. He passed testing with emissions ready using their tune.

Did you test it? We usually turn off the o2's but on this vehicle we turned of the code it throws instead.

Thanks MBP. According to your test results and our test standards. I would pass.

The inspector will connect a cable to the Diagnostic Link Connector (DLC) located inside your vehicle. The test system will first communicate with the vehicle's Powertrain Control Module to verify that it has completed all checks of applicable systems and is in a testable state.

When the OBD system runs its check on a particular group of components, it signifies this by setting a flag called a Readiness Monitors to Ready or Complete. For initial inspections, if the vehicle has no more than one readiness monitor Not Ready the OBD test will proceed. If there are 2-3 readiness monitors Not Ready the vehicle will receive a tailpipe test. In any case, 4 or more readiness monitors Not Ready will result in the vehicle being rejected from testing. However, if your vehicle is being re-inspected after previously failing the OBD test, and you have not had repair data submitted by an AirCare Certified Repair Centre, the vehicle will be rejected from testing if 2 or more readiness monitors are Not Ready.

If the Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL) is commanded on by the OBD system (see MIL Command Status), the test system will download and record the faults stored in memory. This information will be printed on your Vehicle Inspection Report and the vehicle will receive a fail result.

If your vehicle's OBD system has completed all of its system checks (no more than one readiness monitor Not Ready) and the MIL is not commanded on, the vehicle will pass the OBD inspection.
