That's good to hear. Gear rattle (grinding noise from transmission) was driving me nuts and it took many tries to get it fixed. Since car is DD, I rather have it quiet than more power, but if I could have both....

With a dual rigid disc race clutch and billet flywheel the gear rattle is louder than the exhaust at idle in the cabin. But this doesn't have anything to do with the tune. All I can say is fhere was never any gear rattle with the stock clutch and the same tune.

Hi Andrew,

Are you offering any package deal for the G5 purchased with the e9x tune.

I have a 325XiT 2006 with BMW Performance Exhaust, BMW Performance Intake and am about to install a 3-stage manifold. I run 94 octane exclusively.

Does your standard e9x upgrade tune adapt automatically or do you need to tweak it somehow? Will the flashed ECU adapt to lower octane automatically if, for some reason, 94 octane is not available?

Thanks,

Frank

Frank,

Give me a call And we can work out a package deal for you. The tune will adapt over time or you can just reset it with a tool for an instant adaptation reset. The lowest octane we recommend with our software is 91.

All,
here is the dyno data from the 128i as tested with

1) stock 207 whp - 190 wtq
2) AA tune 219 whp - 204 wtq
3) 3 stage with AA tune 233 whp - wtq 222

The dip is inherent in the cars with 3 stage intake, driving the car there is no evidence of that dip.

We will be sending the prototype header to be fitted and then dynoed after..I am hoping to see 250 wheel HP or 255

Impressive numbers. Is that a standard flash tune or are there any tweaks? I've always wondered if i should rent some dyno time and go for a full custom tune..

I can answer this: This is the off the shelf tune, with minor adjustments made. For the most part, the car should be able to adapt to the mods you have, otherwise custome tunes won't gain you much (if any) peak power, and minor gains in the midrange.

I figured as much. Ah well I'm hoping that my lower numbers(225/201) were the result of 0 adaptation time and mixed up post cat o2's. Dyno differences as well of course.

I always wanted to see a tuned single stage vs a tuned 3 stage manifold!

wow!! 233 hp... and looking at the xdrive dynos, xdrive really sucks power away from the wheels ...so say if the headers net 255 hp- spending around 1200 (with install) of headers and tune vs 280 hp and about 5grand with install of SC kit

Tune and manifold combo is the only way to go. I have had mine for close to two years now.

let it be known that these were done on different dynos:

the 221 on a mustang dyno is about 254 on a dynojet

well done AA!

The scale of the baseline is off, it would have shown greater gains if it were correct.

Thanks for mentioning this! A mustang dyno usually avg's 10% lower than a dynojet.

My question is: if I do your tune, will I lose the work he put in to address the gear rattle? I do not want to lose what he did.

Thanks
Just an update and warning:

I had mine installed today.

This tune will lower your RPM to 650 rpm at idle. If you had dealer apply software fix in order to fix the gear rattle, this will nix the fix.

After the update, my gear rattle is worse than ever. I love the power in the upper rpms but gear rattle at idle is horrendous. If they can't apply the fix to increase my idle to ~720 rpm, I will most likely revert to stock.

On the positive side, car feels more nimble and pulls stronger. Can't wait to install 3 stage intake to get full potential.

Has your dealer looked at the guibo? If it's worn gear rattle will increase. BTW, I didn't have the DASH3 display running with the logger until late September (I think) and the CANbus reported rpm is actually 725 at idle. The tach reads 650rpm at the same time.
