E90 Voltage Regulator - Anybody Ever Changed It?

Title says it all, E90 335 needs a voltage regulator.
Swapped the battery due to electrical gremlins. Coded the battery.
Issue persisted.
Connected a voltage monitor and saw voltage start out at a rock solid 14.2V, then start to sag around 12.5V, Then after shutting the car off and starting it, saw the voltage shoot to 16V.
The computer then shut down everything to protect the computers.

I ordered a new voltage regulator.
It looks like you can change it with the alternator in the car.
You need to remove to airbox, and it looks like you get access to the back of the alternator.

Anyone ever done the swap?
