Jeff,

How do you upload photos (media) to the D99? Is this how you would change the background on the screen menu? What is the difference between the SD card slot on the left and the right of the unit?

I tried the MUTE button. A short press mutes the audio.. a long press makes the screen dark (turns it off). I don't get a "dimming" of the screen with a long press of the MUTE button.

For the screen turning off or dimming, the DIM function in the radio setting menu control the behavior of this function. The brightness, contrast, color settings are for video playback only so leave them alone. Third, android has it's own brightness setting that can be used in conjunction with the differnt android wallpapers to maximize contrast and visibility.
I'm assuming you must have a bright colored interior, I have cream and even with all of the above visibility can still be challenging when the seats are lit up by bright sunshine and I get the reflection in the screen but I have not yet seen a situation where I couldn't see it at all.

Unless the 2011s are different I don't think a powered antenna adapter is the answer (could be wrong here...) did you check yet my other suggestion about the TMC plug?

Finding constant power in a e9x can be challenging as many of the car's circuits "go to sleep" after a time. Different cars have different configurations so I can't tell you exactly which fuse location to use....but I personally used the oem amp fuse....it's one of the "radio" fuses in the fuse chart and was fairly large, 30-40 amp if memory serves...

The left sd card slot is connected to android, the right slot is connected to the radios media player. To get media into android just put it on the sd card with your computer and put it in the dynavin.

If I want to upload a photo for the main screen wallpaper, which SD slot do I use?

Other than trying to make something that is not a phone become one, why don't we get something like this?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature...v=YcggnNVTNwI#!

This seems fast, no need to wifi tether, and it is pretty much reliable just like your phone.

Hell with the Dynavin.

Jeff... anybody....I notice that if I turn on the car electronics, with D99 powered off, I get a soft hissing sound out of the speakers. Only way to remove hiss is to turn car electronics off. Any ideas?

That's the "noise floor" of the oem amp....

krnet, that video is sped up, other than that, yes you could do something like that, it would be a lot more work and there would be some major compromises but overall parts of it would work well.

What in the world does that mean? I have 3 other BMWs and none of them have a noise like this coming from the OEM amp

ALL audio components produce some kind of noise, it is called the "noise floor". It is the basis upon which audio specs like the signal to noise ratio are calculated. The goal when engineering (or installing) an audio system is to keep it inaudible in regular use. The dynavins S/N ration is relatively low (meaning noisy) but not obnoxiously so, If you are hearing it and it is VERY soft it is normal, if you are hearing something that is not very soft then maybe it is something else.

What is odd is that you are saying that the dynavin is off but you are getting noise, but what happens with the dynavin ON and paused/turned down, you may hear a tiny bit of hiss, the combined noise of the dynavin and the amp. Frankly though, this is not something I have really heard much of on the any of the dynavin units, Could be that the oem amp doesnt like not having an input and the result is a little bit of audible hiss when the dynavin is off.

Ive got an MS-8 etc... in my car so I cant say I have any personal experience with the oem amp...only what I have heard from others....

EDIT: Turns out there was a head unit relocation in this car and the old head unit was turned on....problem solved.

I guess I really don't understand... all I know, is that if I step into my 2011 X5 and turn on the electronics (first key push), there is not any sound what-so-ever (just tried it). If I do this in my dynavin 335 I hear an audible hiss coming out of the driver's side speaker. I'll ask my installer tomorrow.

yep, no arguments here, do it, it looks cool. (not being sarcastic)

But understand there are too many integration issues here to list....its a display mirror, thats it...what about the audio output, bluetooth, radio, CD/DVD, SW controls, etc... I know how I would do it (but im an installer), but this isnt a plug and play project, its a custom job. Kind of like a car PC but using the iphone instead. Cool idea but just realize what this entails. Besides that, I suggest you go for it, looks like a great project.

yeah, that would be best. A tiny bit of hiss is normal, a loud hiss....not so much.

Since Dynavin has a A/V Output, I believe this seems like it would be very easy to do with their module.

Startup file

Jeff, been working on D99 at electronics shop this morning. I think I lost startup file for android on SD card as I reformatted card the other day. We took power off D99 while locating new fuse and now Android won't start up

The SD card is not a necessity to start the Android OS. Take out the card and start it up. If it still doesn't work, then you probably corrupted through the update process so it might need to be reflashed. Check dynavin's android OS section for the update files and install again.

Yes, this is correct. There are also instructions on how to do this in my FAQ towards the bottom of the page.

If you cant sort it out email me and I can help you.

Solved hissing noise. My relocated factory head unit in trunk was powered up in tuner mode. Turned off tuner, hissing gone. Duh!
