USB socket

Has anyone got the USB socket and are you using the iPod with the lead through the I drive. Any good ? Got quoted nearly 50 quid for the lead and was wondering if it works well through I drive.

Also - any idea on how I can get an updated disc for my sat nav. It doesn't find anything. BMW reckon it will be 200 quid

The iPod lead lets you search your ipod for album, artist, playlist etc. etc.

Look on here though as use ones are between 10-20.

Stick to an original BMW lead, people have reported problems with the cheap Ford and after market ones. However, you can find them for less than half the dealer price on e-bay.

That's the one I bought for my mate with his Mini One and he's not had any problems since. I luckily kept the one out of my SEAT when I P/X'd cars as the lovely saleswoman told me I should keep it as I'd need it for my 318d, I thought a normal ipod lead would work like it does in my mother's X5.

Wait you have i-Drive? Mother's X5 has that and I can run my iphone off the standard apple lead, have you tried it with the lead first?

No. It doesn't work. It charges it but the USB audio option on the screen is greyed out and it just plays the music through the ipod not the car speakers

it will only let me use the aux in. I presume that the lead needs to be combined for it to put sound through.

Garage List
I have the exact same problem with the lead and the sat nav. If you have an actual ipod it will work fine but it won't recognise the phone.

Maybe there is an update for the software but I would prefer to get it from a BMW garage as it is the sort of thing that might be easy to render completly usless if it is done wrong.

If you have the USB input in the armrest you could just spend your money on a USB stick and leave in in the car.

I had mine running off my Iphone with a phone cradle I modded that split out to a USB lead. However I have now put everything on a usb stick and leave it in the car...all searchable, album artwork etc. comes up very quickly and way better sound than adding to the hdd of the car. Only thing I did was convert my apple lossless to wma lossless so the car can play it. A far neater solution and better sound than via car hdd or Iphone in my opinion.

I believe the newer BMW Mini's use the same lead. I paid 9 for my genuine one (albeit used, but meh) on eBay .

Thanks for the tip burton. I got the lead and it works a treat. Don't you just love it when something just works. The sound seems really good through the wide input of the bottom of the iPhone rather than the headphone socket. Your point about the permanent USB stick option is probably worth a try. Save me pratting about with the phone on a morning. I reckon the sound system has been upgraded because it sounds bloody amazing. Loads better than my 09 plate 325
