What I was testing today...

Not configured completely yet... hoping to get it working tomorrow...

Mobridge DA2 MOST to analog/MOST to Toslink gateway:

- MOST input
- 8 RCA outputs (2 pair fading, 2 pair non-fading)
- Toslink S/PDIF digital output
- internal DSP EQ controlled by 7-band EQ UI in BMW head unit
- 24-bit Burr-Brown DACs
- 4V RMS analog outputs
- USB programming (no more SD card!)

So would you be recoding the radio to L7 output

Or does that even make sense.
Do all the channels come down the fiberoptic cable or are
they generated in the amp in the original setup?
Since the L7 has 9 channels as far as I know do you come
up one short or is there away to balance that out?
I thought is was the amp that genrated the L7 surround effect in the
factory system.
How would you use the faded channels versus the non faded channels?

This should be a blessing for the E65 7-Series and all their Logic7 busted OEM amps...

I believe the thought process on the two sets of non fading is, two
For underseats and two for a trunk sub. Per manual, fading only works with the RCA out. S/PDIF only supports two channels.

Yes, c, all the processing is in the amp.

Well, the DA1 did not support the 7, but I don't know about this one.

There was I guy in Berkely repairing 7 series amps

I read some threads of his and apparently the amp channels on that system were split between two boards one of which was in the Nav/Radio Unit.

That's the E60 analog HiFi system.

I was thinking the same thing before I read this. Sounds expensive though. So if its controlled though the OEM EQ, how do you get it to work on a hi-fi system that has no EQ. Recode?

That would seem to be the only option

Ok, Maybe I am confused for us L7 guys.. So the most cable would come out of the head unit into the DA2 then out of the DA2 into the L7 amp. Then you would connect your after market amps via the RCA cables to the DA2? Then how would the wiring out of the aftermarket amps connect to say the front and rear speakers? I understand that for the underseat subs and trunk subs you could run new wiring. Or does this DA2 take the place of the L7 amp, but then you have to run aftermarket amps for power as the DA2 does not have a built in amp. I guess I am asking if we would need a technic harness to connect to the factory wiring out of the aftermarket amps?
THANKS.. THIS SEEMS LIKE IT MAY BE A GREAT OPTION..

This a fiberoptic to analog preamp.

Vp how are you doing with the install as in what are the details?

The most obvious use of this is to replace the L7 amp add aftermarket amps of a higher quality and power.

The think that holds people back from doing this a little is the fact before this unit you would have recode the head unit to analog outputs and run new wires from the radio head to the new amps

With this you don't have to recode the radio or run new wires to the trunk.

DA2 + Aftermarket Amps + Technic Harness = Delete L7 amp

Awesome.. that is what I pm'd ctuna about.. I am definately looking forward to going with this setup. Do you have to tune the DA2 or does it have presets or is just a pass through as I see it has a usb port..

Thanks

Not sure why my earlier reply disappeared - this is an L7 amp replacement as has been covered. It is not required in order to uipgrade your L7 system - there is plenty you can do without spending for this, but it does work great in Toslink mode. As far as the analog outputs go, this is a beta unit, we are testing, it's not ready for analog output at this moment, but it's pre-release, so let's see where we end up. I hope that a fully-functional piece is available very soon, and will keep you apprised. But I like it

So if an aftermarket amp has a toslink connection such as a JL amp then you would use those instead of the RCA outputs?

Other than a couple of old 5.1 amps (which were commercial failures) from Alpine and PG, Toslink hasn't been a feature of car amps. The Toslink is for use with an external processor with in, such as a bitone, P-DSP, or one of a number of models which have been announced but are not yet available.
